Amazing restaurant! We stumbled upon this place after the first place we went to was booked, and I'm very glad we did. Excellent, honest food without frills at exceedingly fair prices.
For lunch they do the old-school set menu thing with soup plus a choice of 3 or 4 mains. Plus a big jug of tap water for free. Price was 7 euros for just the main or 8 with soup. There's also a selection of desserts at extra cost, around 3 euros each. Everything we ordered was fantastic: veal stew, squid with beans, cheesecake, caramel mousse and chocolate mouse. The setting is also great - nice, funky decor and a very comfortable terrace out back.
The overall vibe was great - you could this is a real passion project. There aren't many places like this around anymore. If you're in Braga, do yourself a favor and stop by. You...
Read moreThe menu changes daily, so I guess it doesn’t make much sense to digress on what I ate. Suffice to say that everything was nothing short than great, for a very, very reasonable price. The vibe is just right, the place cozy and chill. The owners are super nice and easygoing.
I can definitely recommend this place.
Only one side note. Unless you have a MultiBanco, Portuguese card (which - as far as I can tell - is something like our good ol’ Italian Bancomat circuit), you need to bring some cash. No Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, Amex, etc. That’s something I can’t wrap my head around, especially for a restaurant in a tourists-packed city like Braga. It’s kinda annoying, but I can’t let it impact my overall rating, considering the quality of the food and the loveliness of...
Read moreWe discovered a true gem in the heart of Braga: Retrokitchen. This family-owned restaurant caters not to tourists, but to the locals of Braga—a great sign, in our view. The lunch menu is simple, and the food is honest and deeply flavorful, tasting like it was prepared by loving grandmothers in a cozy kitchen. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, and Rui and his wife Tânia made us feel like part of their family. They extend this same kindness to all their guests. The popularity of this place speaks for itself; the first time we visited, it was full, so we came back earlier the next day and were glad we did. We wholeheartedly recommend Retro Kitchen—an authentic,...
