My reservation was managed by googles & The Fork, hence it was cancelled which I'm not aware of the cancellation.
After 20 mins nice walk to reach the restaurant, found booking was cancelled. Explained to the restaurant staff, reservation was cancelled may be due to technical errors. The response from the staff and chef is supper annoying with poor attitudes. Completely deviated from their website branding.. ....."Kappo team, working together in perfect harmony. The whole team embodies hospitality, the fine art of receiving."????
Will not visit and recommend this restaurant to dine as the Chef is not Japanese but a short small built European looking man trying to create a Japanese fine cuisine restaurant with non of staff is Japanese. The ambient of Japanese restaurant is completely non existence with no hospitality besides a modern Interior furnishing with "so call sushi" L-Shape counter on the left side and couple dining tables on the right side.
Nothing regrettable having reservation being cancelled. The staff/chef poor attitude put off the desire to dine in this restaurant and in doubts their ability to deliver Authentic Japanese fine cuisine dining.
Japanese culture process naturally inheritance of courtesy which this restaurant completely do not process it. If there an authentic Japanese fine dining Cuisine open in Cascais, it be not easy for this restaurant to compete with their poor services or food quality able to match typical Japanese fine cuisine dining.
Having travelling to Japan twice per year for fine dining for past 30 years and experiencing worldwide Michelin Star/Guide dining.. this is one of worst encountered.
Wonder how this restaurant able to meet Michelin guide with such poor staff/chef attitudes. No professionalism at all.
In respond to your reply today 11hours ago, you had apparently misconstrued my message. Humble yourself to understand my comments in full context.
There is no reasons to harbour anger of such nitty gritty issue. Every feedback is a learning curve and should not have any negative impact and be so offensive. Good...
Read moreUpdate 2023-09-15: Went back for our 20th wedding anniversary and had another very good meal, but it was not as amazing as our first visit. There was no ankimo, wagyu or carabineiro shrimp on the omakase menu this time, which are a few of our favorite courses. For the sushi course, we were also not offered seconds of any of the nigiris. The first time we were there the chef asked if we wanted a repeat of any of the nigiris and we got a second of the seared tuna belly. Still a great place, but less value and less spectacular than our first visit. Given the bill came close to 600€ we expected more bang for the buck.
I usually don't write a review a first visit, but this place is so obviously a 5 star experience it deserves the exception. It is not often that I find myself talking excitedly about dinner for hours after having left. Both the service and the food were simply exceptional. The chefs that prepare your food and hand deliver it to you explain every dish and are happy to answer any questions you may have. The support staff are super efficient, very polite and keep your glasses full without having to be asked. Special kudos to the house sommelier who is extremely knowledgeable, helped us find the perfect sake for the evening and had great suggestions both for the food and drink. As for the food... I highly recommend sticking to the 12 course tasting menu for 110€ a person. Worth every penny, and each dish is an experience. (please see my photos here) There was very little we didn't love on this menu. The food, presentation, atmosphere and service make the experience as much theater as it is dinner. I simply cannot wait to find an excuse to go back and do it all again. Bravo to the chefs that work here, their dedication to using locally sourced ingredients, and for doing it right by aging fish properly in traditional Japanese...
Read moreMy husband and I ate here on our honeymoon. We absolutely love omakase, and this one exceeded our expectations. The chef is very attentive to detail, and delivers a range of moments. The staff is quick to prepare between plates and accommodating for any needs.
I think a lot of the negative reviews are from folks who don't understand that you are also paying for an experience, not just food, and one that is quite above and beyond in my opinion. The amount of detail and curiosity in every moment is incredible.
There are a few aspects where i think Kappo can improve, but i would never take a star away for these things. Music is a little louder than i wish, although i could hear the explanation's of the moments, it could have been easier. I wish there was a coat rack, a little surprised there was no where to hang a jack or purse, had to lay purse on floor. I was sat directly next to a column, and it made it hard to use my right arm, but not too bad.
These are the smallest details, but when it comes to Michelin, they do matter!
Anyways. Thank you so much for an incredible, well balanced, and amazingly delicious omakase experience. We are already recommending to friends, and would happily...
