Update/ respond back. Yes it was very disturbing experience coming to your establishment. Very disturbing. But I do want to know, if asking where we were from is a way to break the ice, why did the server walk away the second we told him we live here? If you didn’t know, that’s very rude. As for the squid, I have had it many times and this has been the WORST EVER. I’m not a child and know what a real squid tases like. So please take ownership and apologize and not make excuses. And yes there were two different prices, we even confirmed that the menu it’s shows different price but the serves kept saying no it’s €18 today and never mentioned that it was different type of fish. Also, you forgot to mention how your server was forcing my husband to use a different knife and had the tendency to pick it up and say “ here use this knife “ like my husband was a child and not a grown adult. What you got to say about that? Oh yeah you don’t want to mention that because that would mean you have to apologize.
But again, from your responses towards other costumers I knew you wouldn’t apologize and/or take responsibility but instead you gaslight us with your excuses. Not ok. A business that cares about their costumers would start by apologizing first. We aren’t little children. We are grown adults and we know what right and wrong looks like. Maybe take a class or two to learn how to treat costumers respectfully when they have a complaint. Do better next time.
You give other local restaurants a very bad name. You should be ashamed. —————— This is not the spot to come especially if you aren’t a tourist because it’s a tourist trap and the food is not worth it. Ans our service was horrible, never have I experienced anything like this. The minute we sat the server comes over and asks where we’re from, my husband says oh we’re from here. He kept asking my husband- what do you mean from here? My husband says again, we live here then all the sudden the serves walks away. Very awkward and not respectful. I get the grilled squid.. one word… horrible. It was very rough and rubbery rubbery to chew and zero flavor. Then another served comes over while my husband was eating and asks him why he ain’t using a different knife, my husband says, nahh I don’t need it I’m good, then the serves picks up the knife and hands it to my husband like my husband was a kid and not a grown adult.. and that was enough for us. We asked for the check. Then why another serves comes and ask us if we want desert? But still no check Then 5 minutes later another serves comes and kept asking me why I can’t take my food to go which I kept telling him.. the food is chewy and rubbery I don’t want to eat it. He kept insisting I should take it to go. I said, I’m sorry I can’t take it home and I don’t even have a dog to give it to so no I don’t want it ( and to be honest, I wouldnt even feed this to my dog) Then we wait more and another serves comes to give our check. Then I don’t know if they know but it’s rude to walk around customers table and hover over their table while they are eating.
I ended up paying for both meals even though I barely ate mine because I know they will try and gaslight me telling that the food wasn’t rubbery and tasteless . Like they did with one of the reviews and told the costumer that what she saw on the plate wasn’t hair. And to me that’s very rude.
The whole plate and the experience was a disgrace to the actual Portuguese food and culture.
Finally, why do they have two different prices? Is one for locals and one for the tourist? When my husband ordered his fish the serves tells him that the fish is not €14 but €18 ( the menu showed €14) Huh? And then few minutes later when he finds out that we lived here he walked way. Why did he decide to walk away when he found out we weren’t tourist? That’s Very rude and disrespectful to a costumer.
This is the most uncomfortable experience we have ever had being here. They target tourist and they target them to the extreme to the point where they make the costumer feel very...
Read moreIf you want traditional portuguese food, this is the place. The food was amazing from the two times we were there.
That is why it hurts to say that the service isn’t great.
This is what we experienced: upon arrival and sitting, an employee came to ask us what we wanted to drink. As we already knew the dishes we wanted (and we didn’t want to wait more time for the food to arrive), we told the waiter what we wanted to drink and eat. Well, it turned out that the first waiter was only able to collect drinks, not collecting food requests. For that, another employee had do come in. Then we ordered our food and all went well on that part. When asking for the bill, that is when everything goes wrong again. We asked a waiter for the bill 4 times, getting always the “positive nod”, but no bill appeared. Then, we tried to ask another waiter, but the same thing. Well, it turns out that only one person takes care of the bills, so if that person isn’t there, you will wait an eternity.
So, in sum, just like in any other restaurant, please teach and allow all waiters to do the same tasks (all should be able to collect the food and drink requests as well as taking care of the bill. If not, everyone will wait a long time just to leave your restaurant, and you will have full tables with done customers rather than new customers). And lastly, please tell your waiters not to ignore customers or “forget requests”, as asking for the bill 4 times to one waiter and 2 times to another...
Read moreWe personally think they’re a tourist trap.
Decided to give O Viriato a try and I’m sorry I did. The prices on the menu seemed to be very reasonable, but I was told that the price was €4 more. That’s a red flag of course! I’ve been given the “tourist” price when I first moved to Portugal. I ordered the grilled sea bass for 1 and my wife ordered the grilled squid. She didn’t like it. It was dry, chewy, flavorless. More of a hassle to try and eat. My fish was ok. Could have stayed on the grill for a min more. I wasn’t impressed. We shared a red sangria. It was the smallest sangria we’ve had since living in country. Especially at a €15 price point. The awkward start of our meal was when 1 of 4 of the people serving us asked “where we were from?” and i told him Estoril. He said, Oh Estoril….and walked away!! Only time that’s happened was when we first moved to Portugal and we got the tourist price. Then there’s the awkward “everyone” come look at the...
