I booked the junior Suite for a special new year's eve. On the confirmation email it was described as a modern decorated room with a big bed, a living room and a bathroom. When we got there, it was a room with a big bed, an entrance hall (has 2 chairs, a small, low tea table and a wardrobe) and a bathroom, nothing resembling a junior suite. We were disappointed with the decor. Upon arrival, both the main door and the bathroom had higienic stamps saying everything was safe and sanitized, but when we got in we found the toilet used and dirty and the floor with dust and human hair. We did say this at the front desk and I asked how is it possible that a 200 euro per night suite is dirty and has a sanitisation stamp anyway. The answer was just that they would ask the cleaning ladies to go back there. During this communication there was no apology from the staff or even an acknowledgement that there was a mistake or fault on their part and they did not make any attempt to contact us after it, to make sure that the problem had been solved. The door to the front balcony didn't work properly and the cold entered through there. The heating wasnt enough to cope with the cold coming in during the night . There was a lot of noise during the night, the room is not isolated properly and there is something that sounds like a generator, from the hotel, right next to the room so there was a constant buzz, all night, and it was very hard to have a good night sleep. Plus you hear everything that goes on outside, the street trash is just below the room (outside) and the trash truck comes late at night and you even hear the men talking. The breakfast is included in the stay but everything was cold and tastless. The coffee was from a machine and looked like dirty water so we prefered the one outside the hotel. Upon checking out there was no honest conversation about any of the problems we had. Overall the experience was terrible at Hotel Baia and we can't recomend anyone to stay here, there are certainly much better...
Read moreWe stayed at Hotel Baia for 3 nights and paid around $750, which felt a bit pricey, but we were fine with it given the hotel’s excellent location. It’s conveniently close to nearby establishments and great for walking around, which we really appreciated.||The room was clean and had a beautiful view of the beach from the balcony, which made our stay more enjoyable. However, the walls lacked proper soundproofing — we could hear conversations and movements from the hallway, the neighboring rooms, and even above and below us.||The bed mattress was quite firm, and the pillows were hard and uncomfortable. A mattress topper would make a big difference. The air conditioner was another issue — it was clearly very old, noisy, and leaked water at one point (which they did repair). There were visible signs of previous water damage on the floor and door jambs. It’s also not an inverter model, so it’s not energy efficient. Unfortunately, the noise made it hard to sleep, and when we called for assistance, no one came. We even requested to move to another room but were met with hesitation rather than accommodation.||The hairdryer also seemed outdated, though the shower was excellent — strong pressure and great temperature control.||Breakfast was decent but more in line with a 3-star offering. The buffet selection was typical, and while the coffee was okay, it wasn’t particularly memorable. On a positive note, the staff were polite and friendly, though it sometimes took a couple of follow-ups before issues were addressed.||A thoughtful touch was that they sent a bottle of bubbly and a chocolate mousse for my husband’s birthday — that gesture really stood out and was much appreciated.||Overall, while the hotel’s location and cleanliness were definite highlights, the outdated amenities, noise issues, and slow service response made the experience fall short of a true 4-star standard. For the price and rating, I expected a bit more value...
Read moreWe stayed at Hotel Baia for 3 nights in August 2022. We are frequent visitors to Cascais but have never stayed there, as we usually stay in Bairro Alto / Chiado in Lisboa. We decided to mix things up this trip and Hotel Baia did not disappoint.
We had an ocean/marina-front room with a balcony and the view of Cascais, Estoril and the coast was beautiful. Coincidentally, we happened to be there during Festas do Mar and had an overhead view of the concerts. The room was very comfy with plenty of closet and drawer space, although the TV was on the small side. The bathroom was sleek and modern with a stylish rectangular basin (although it doesn't drain well). The shower had the European-standard wand but thankfully had a wall-mounted showerhead as well (as opposed to a ceiling mount for women not wanting to get their hair wet). The only thing lacking was a coffee maker and a mini-fridge.
Speaking of coffee, there is nowhere to get coffee in the hotel until breakfast opens at 7:30AM. I couldn't find a pastelaria or cafe open before then nearby. The cafe in the train station was the nearest spot. The breakfast buffet was good - your standard European offerings of cheeses, meats, fruits plus hot eggs, bacon/ham and sausages. The milk for the cereal was cold. They have a Douwe Egberts machine that surprisingly made a very good coffee of choice.
The rooftop pool and bar are a big highlight of this property, although the water was a little on the chilly side in the pool. (Cascais' ocean temperature is extremely cold, so we were hoping the pool would be on the warmer side.) Joao, Jose and Patricia provided excellent service for us at the pool bar throughout our stay and we want to give them a special shout out!
We look forward to returning to Hotel Baia as soon as we can get back to Cascais and Portugal! Highly...
