My partner and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Masala Indian Restaurant in Cascais, Portugal. Let me tell you – we were blown away by the food and service. One of my favorite dishes was the vegetable biryani, a flavorful blend of aromatic rice and mixed vegetables with many delicious spices. The biryani was cooked to perfection – the rice was fluffy, and the vegetables were just the right amount of tender. And let's talk about those spices – they were perfectly balanced and added so much depth to the dish's flavor. We also ordered the aloo gobi, which was just as tasty as the biryani. It featured tender chunks of potato and cauliflower in a rich and flavorful sauce. Yum! And to top it all off, we ordered a side of garlic naan bread, which was light, fluffy, and slightly crispy on the outside. It was the perfect complement to the biryani and aloo gobi – like the icing on the cake (or the nan bread on the curry, if you will). But the food wasn't the only highlight of the night – the service was top-notch too! Our server, Mandeep, was super friendly and attentive, continuously checking in on us to ensure we had everything we needed. Plus, he was a pro at recommending dishes and answering any questions we had about the menu. In short, Masala Indian Restaurant is a 5-star experience in my book. The food was delicious, with a wide variety of flavors and spices, and the service was impeccable. The owner also owns the Tasting Room across the way, which is also very good, but that is another review to be posted in the future. Be sure to catch “Exploring Cascais Portugal - Boca do Inferno” on our Youtube Channel - @tourabunga - Where we feature this restaurant in more detail. If you find yourself in Cascais craving authentic and delicious Indian cuisine, give Masala Indian Restaurant a try – you won't regret it! Tell them Michael & Melissa from Tourabunga sent you.

The Indian masala restaurant in Portugal truly offers an exceptional culinary experience. The moment you step in, the aroma of authentic spices envelops you, setting the stage for a delightful journey through Indian cuisine. The menu boasts a diverse selection of dishes, each masterfully prepared with a perfect balance of flavors. The appetizers, like samosas and pakoras, showcase the chef's expertise in crafting crispy, flavorful bites. The main courses are a symphony of spices, with the masala dishes standing out for their rich, aromatic gravies. Whether you're a fan of vegetarian delights or indulge in the meaty options, every dish is a celebration of Indian culinary heritage. The biryanis are a highlight, with fragrant basmati rice layered with succulent meat or vegetables, creating a heavenly medley of tastes and textures. The tandoori items, from perfectly charred kebabs to tender naan bread, add an irresistible smokiness to the overall experience. The service is impeccable, with attentive staff offering recommendations and ensuring a comfortable dining atmosphere. The restaurant's ambiance is a perfect blend of warmth and cultural authenticity, transporting you to the heart of India. The portions are generous, ensuring that you leave with a satisfied palate and perhaps some leftovers for the next day. The culinary journey is complemented by a well-curated beverage menu, featuring refreshing lassis and aromatic chai. In conclusion, this Indian masala restaurant in Portugal is a gem for those seeking an unforgettable gastronomic adventure. It effortlessly captures the essence of Indian cuisine, delivering an explosion of flavors that will leave you planning your next visit. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates the magic of well-executed masala and a true taste of India in the heart of Portugal.

Went there because of how “well rated” it was on google. We were pretty disappointed. (Before I start, I’ve been eating Indian food for 8 years now and have eaten in around 30 different Indian restaurants in over 5 different countries so I know a good Indian restaurant when I see one.)The meat dishes were wayyy to sweet, even though they put a candle under it, the meat was not warm enough. We ordered a cheese naan and a Pashwari naan (coconut, raisins and cashew). Really bad choice, thought it will be exotic but it tasted like pumpkin and was an orange thick texture. The cheese naan was pretty much grated cheese on top of a naan when it’s usually a really good melted cheese INSIDE it. The staff were nice though, even gave us “recommendations”. We appreciated that. It does get really crowded and loud, no AC on, tables are too close and not that much light only the front door. Metal cups are not such a great idea during the pandemic ;)

Rude arrogant staff and average food!

We tried to go here last year and were basically laughed at for trying to go without a reservation; granted there were 8 of us which is fair enough.

We ended up here after a restaurant we were going to go to was closed. We were sat down inside and had to ask for a menu after waiting approximately 10 minutes. We ordered some drinks, starters and food for the kids whilst we decided on our mains. We ordered 2 small Kingfisher beers but were told they only had Cobra, which was fine. A waiter brought 2 large Cobra beers over and before he had even opened them we said we only wanted small ones. He told us that they only had large ones, so we said we would share a large one. The waiter told us that this wasn’t possible as it was already on the computer (Little Britain springs to mind). I told the waiter that we only wanted small beers, my wife is pregnant and would only have a small beer. He then said ‘well there is alcohol in the small beer too.’ At this point I became quite annoyed and told the waiter to mind his own business and to go away. He then told me to calm down and he would take a beer away - I’m not sure why he didn’t just do this in the first place.

At this point I was ready to leave but didn’t want to upset my 2 young children. The waiter who took our order then came over and said ‘you ordered 2 beers?’, I said that we wanted small beers. He then checked our starter order again because ‘once it’s in the computer we can’t change our minds!’

By this point we really didn’t want to be there anymore but felt it was easier to just stay and eat the food. The food came and it was fine, nothing out of the ordinary. I had a fish curry and the fish had the texture of soggy battered fish in a sauce.

Other observations from the restaurant included a couple who asked to move outside if a table became available being told ‘no’. A couple who requested to have a dish ‘hot’ being told ‘no’ and a couple who didn’t eat one of their dishes, just have it taken away with no offer of a new dish or questions to understand what was wrong with the dish.

Very...
