Casa da Massa — Restaurant in Coimbra

Good chinese restaurant for an easy noodle and rice meal. The portions are quite big but the ingredients are a tard too little. We had the fried rice and noodles with shrimps. The shrimps were quite small and we found it to be too little vs the portion of the rice and noodles, as compared to other chinese restaurant in portugal. The chinese tea is also very light and thin, due to the minimal amount of tea leaves in a medium size tea pot. They should have been slightly generous in the portion for the tea leaves. We also ordered the fried Dumplings, that dish was the best among the others. Lastly, we ordered wanton soup, it came with a generous amount of wantons, but each wanton was wrapped with a tiny amount of mince pork. Price wise, its affordable and comparable to other chinese restaurants that we have been to in Porto and Aveiro. Taste wise, good but nothing to shout about. Arrived at 6.10pm and I was the only customer. Tried to order braised beef noodles and a plate of dumplings but owner told me it would be too much for one person. So I canceled the dumplings.

The noodles were legit. Not the best I have had in China or Taiwan but good enough. Meat was tender and had the soya taste permeated through the braising. Dip into their chilli sauce (you have to collect it by yourself from the counter, it’s kept in bottles and small condiment dishes are there for you to use) and it’s flavour is enhanced immediately.

Happy to find this ordinary looking chinese eating house but served nice foods. They do noodle foods and stir fry noodles. We order a simple fried rice with prawns and stir fry of mixed vegetables. Both done nicely. So happy getting my craving of rice fixed. The price is so cheap, I feel like i should have paid more for our dinner. It costed €8.5 for 2 meals abd €2 fir a pot if hot tea.
