La Piccola Cucina Italiana Pizza E Pasta — Restaurant in Coimbra

I was strolling through Coimbra and really wanted to eat good food at a place not overrun by tourists. Since I'm not a big fan of Portuguese cuisine, I looked for a pizzeria and found this one. At first glance, the restaurant looked very simple and not fancy at all, but very authentic and full of soul.

Right off the bat: If you expect an ambiance and superficialities with a posh waiter service from a butler, you won't feel happy here.

But if you are here to eat very good food prepared with a lot of love and soul, this is the right place for you to be.

Why?

I saw the pizza of another customer and was impressed. The dough looked like it had the perfect mix of being airy, not too thin but crispy in the right places. When I saw how much love and joy the pizza chef put into preparing the pizza, how the dough was kneaded and the ingredients added, I was looking forward to ordering my pizza. In fact, I ordered two right away: tuna with onions and four cheese. They were extremely delicious and the price was unbeatable. In Berlin, you would pay at least 13-16 euros for such a pizza. Here the price was about 6 euros for a size that saturates an adult, hungry foodie! Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of them but I can guarantee that the pizzas look as delicious as seen in the uploaded images of the other customers.

The two employees were very friendly, consistently attentive, smiling and so humble!

I have to admit that I don't understand the two or so negative reviews here. This place clearly focuses on creating a good product, not on how to make an average product look better than it is through the surroundings.

I have rarely been treated with such friendliness. In a conversation with the pizza maker, he told me he was born in Italy. The pizza tastes like he learned his craft there.

In a smalltalk with the other worker, he explained the situation with the air conditioning although I wasn't bothered by it (it didn't work properly but it's about to get fixed soon).

In a nutshell: the place has a delicious pizza and is run by two good souls, who deserve to be supported!

La Piccola Cucina Italiana – A joia escondida de Coimbra

No coração de Coimbra, entre ruas que guardam a alma da cidade, encontra-se uma verdadeira pérola da gastronomia italiana: La Piccola Cucina Italiana. Mais do que um restaurante, é uma experiência sensorial que se renova a cada visita.

As pizzas aqui atingem um patamar raríssimo. Sem hesitar, afirmo: são as melhores de Portugal e, atrevo-me a dizer, superiores a qualquer uma que provei em viagens pelo próprio território italiano. A perfeição da massa — leve, arejada e com uma crosta subtilmente crocante — alia-se à frescura dos ingredientes e a um equilíbrio irrepreensível de sabores. Cada fatia é uma homenagem à autenticidade da verdadeira pizza.

O espaço, recentemente remodelado, ganhou uma atmosfera mais acolhedora, sem perder a identidade que já conquistava quem entrava. O serviço reflete a essência da casa: simpatia genuína, dedicação visível e uma relação de proximidade que transforma clientes habituais em amigos. Confesso que, por ser já cliente habitual (o restaurante favorito da zona centro), a afeição que criámos com todo o staff deixa-me com uma genuína e enorme felicidade por tudo o que têm conseguido… dou por mim a torcer por eles sempre.

Nesta visita, como aliás sempre, a refeição começou com uma bruschetta absolutamente imperdível, em que o tomate maduro e suculento, temperado no ponto, se funde com o pão crocante e um azeite de enorme qualidade, deixando um rasto aromático inesquecível. Seguiu-se uma sucessão de pratos que confirmaram a consistência desta cozinha: a Caprese, fresca e vibrante, em que a mozzarella de textura sedosa contrasta com a intensidade do manjericão; a Parmegiana, reconfortante e equilibrada, com camadas bem estruturadas que não se afogam em molho, mas se elevam em sabor; e a Calzone Raffaello, uma verdadeira revelação — massa impecavelmente fechada, recheio generoso e uma harmonia levemente picante que surpreende a cada dentada.

Para fechar, a sobremesa trouxe-nos uma panna cotta surpreendente. Confesso não ser apreciador desta iguaria em nenhum outro local, mas a versão da casa é de outro nível: cremosa, delicada e equilibrada, sem excessos de doçura, deixando-se acompanhar por um contraste fresco que a torna simplesmente soberba.

Em suma, La Piccola Cucina Italiana não é apenas um restaurante: é um destino obrigatório para quem valoriza autenticidade, técnica e paixão na cozinha. Uma experiência fenomenal, daquelas que nos fazem regressar vezes sem conta e que consolidam este espaço como um dos grandes tesouros...

Hands down the BEST value in Coimbra for a simple and spectacular Italian pie. €5-€7 gets you everything you could hope for: simple, freshly made, fresh ingredient, balanced thin-crust pizza right out of the oven. Kind of a “personal” size but could share for 2. Says Halal and (currently?) no alcoholic drinks but this shouldn’t disuade you. Plenty of softer drinks and you’re here for the pizza anyway (!)

Also, offerings of risottos, raviolis and other pastas on the menu but over heard that these may be just for lunch time (not sure…). Was there at 20:00 dinner time and the place was hoppin’

Only saw two guys working the whole gig but the service was spot on. One making the pies, one taking the orders… They seemed (justifiably) really proud of what they’ve created. This model works.
