Cordel Maneirista — Restaurant in Coimbra

Food was decently average. Nothing to shout about. But what was really shocking is how they tried to charge me a higher amount. TWICE. I only ordered a dish of the day which was only 12 euros. The first time, they tried to charge me 16 euros, saying that "i have to pay the full 16 euros" even though i did not order the drink + bread combination.

Shocking.

When i protested, they reduced the price to 12.50 euros?! Come on man, the menu stated 12 euros clearly. I made noise again and they finally charged 12 euros.

I'm clearly a tourist and they are out to make a quick buck as i won't be returning regardless. Really shocking and shameful! This is only the first bad experience i had after 6 days here in Portugal.

This is a lovely little restaurant just behind the second roundabout after crossing Santa Clara bridge. It is easy to spot thanks to its deep pink colour and we'll worth a visit. Although the menu is predominantly hamburgers there is a decent range of other things, petiscos, carne and peixe all feature in a menu separate from the burgers. We had a beef and a chicken burger, both with imaginative toppings and a side of tasty crisps. The request to serve the beef burger without the listed pineapple wasn't a problem. Service good, desserts looked delicious but we didn't have time / room to sample. Good value for a more upmarket spot. Will definitely be back to try...

We've just moved to Coimbra from UK but visited a number of times. This was our 1st Saturday dining out & it was perfect. If you're a visitor, let me tempt you over the river to Cordel. It's unpretentious and loves doing what it does. All the staff are unobtrusive but very professional and warmly welcoming. (Special mention for the lovely Tatiana who booked us in). I had Puffed Cheeks beautifully cooked in Barraida with a well-balanced flavour of rosemary. Marie had a traditional Chanfana, which again was perfectly cooked.
