Restaurante Tapas nas Costas — Restaurant in Coimbra

I’m from NYC and am very judgmental of my food experiences but I was delighted with my evening at Tapas and Costas. The staff generously opened a bottle of sparkling wine for me, even though there was not one available by the glass on the menu. The duck confit croquettes (with plum jam) were an outstanding start to my meal! I had the lamb chops which were cooked perfectly and had a subtle sweetness due to the honey that is on it. I had the eggs, bacon, mushrooms & fries dish as well. It was a tad over salted, otherwise it was still tasty & I did enjoy it. I had a glass of the house red which was light/medium bodied and very easy to drink and finished my meal with another glass of sparkling. Lovely spot, tucked away in a tranquil square. Speedy service, scrumptious eats – we went for the mini burgers and they were an absolute delight. Although, I have to admit, the price tag felt a tad hefty for what was offered, even considering the superb quality. Now, let's talk about the local craft beer, ringing in at £6.5 – I couldn't help but feel it's a bit of a stretch. And those potato chips at the same price point? Well, they just don't match up in quality for that cost.

However, despite these hiccups, I must commend the overall experience. The ambiance and flavours were on point, and that's not something to be taken lightly. So, while the price might have raised an eyebrow or two, I'd still recommend giving this place a try – after all, great taste and a charming atmosphere do count...

A cozy, modern space in Coimbra. The service was friendly all throughout, the space was well decorated, and the food was truly delicious. We started with the olives and mixed board, which had cheese and meats. Both were very flavorful tapa options! Then we split the house steak and my goodness this one of the best things I’ve eaten in a long time! The meat was cooked perfectly (for my preference anyway), the seasonings were somehow light and rich at the same time that it added so much and yet didn’t take away from the simplicity of it, and the crispy onions on top were perfect.
