Having lunch here was the best choice of my stay in Coimbra! I arrived on a rainy day in October and sat inside. The place is quite small, but the atmosphere is cozy and the service very friendly. I ordered the local specialy Chanfana (a goat stew) that comes with potatoes and spinach as a side and it was so delicious. I fell in love with the rich flavor of the broth and the meat was so tender it came easily off the bone. The price is similar to other restaurants in Coimbra and the portions are very generous, I almost coundn't finish it. Definitely recommended!

Coimbra may be a popular tourist destination, but our experience at this particular restaurant was far from welcoming. When we asked for an English menu, the waiter condescendingly replied, "Of course not!"—it's understandable not to have an English menu, but the tone was unnecessary. With no English menu, we needed time to translate, yet the waiter rushed us to order despite the restaurant being empty. While we enjoyed the chanfana, we won't be returning.

Maybe we came on a not so good day, but there are some notes to be written about my experience. I ordered a classic Bacalhau à Lagareiro, which was an ok portion for the price (in a touristic part of town). It could've been a bit more seasoned, the skin was burned in some parts and it had way too many bones. THAT I wouldn't expect for the price. Nothing to complain about the place itself or the service. Our server was very nice and helpful!

Well, about the food, everything was perfect. I asked for a medium rare beef steak and ti was cook the perfection that I was looking for. It came with grilled mushrooms, potatoes, tomatoes and zucchini. The combination was amazing. My partner got the Tuna fish and asked for medium rare. Same as the steak, it was cooked to the perfection that we were looking for. The Portuguese traditional veggies on the side were very delicious. I also had the potato and cabbage soup and I was impressed. Long story short, I consider it a place where local food are served. Let's get to the stuff other than food. Unfortunately, the restaurant is a cash only place (no debit or credit). I also expected the waiters to be a little bit more friendly. When we were dinning there on a Sunday night, a group of Fado performers showed up , and made our experience even better with this restaurant. I hope next time, those two little issues will be ...

I can not say that we had a friendly welcome here. When we asked for an English menu, the owner said they do not have one which I can not understand if Coimbra is a touristic place. The food was OK but nothing very special. When we wanted to pay by credit card he said that cards are not accepted and showed us a small sign in Portoguese on the wall near the entrance but his tone was a bit nervous which was unnecessary. When I said that it’s better if they write it also in English, he laughed at me sneeringly and told me that there is an ATM next door. While we enjoyed the food and wine, I do not recommend this place for...

Elegant rustic and charming scene serving up beautiful local dishes. I went with the advice of getting there early if I didn't have any reservations and that was a good call seeing how many reserve cards were placed on the table. I went with a Caldo Verde soup. Smokey Portuguese sausage in a creamy potato and finely sliced Portuguese kale. Just what I needed, a simple and yummy soup to warm up as the cool winds of the night entered through the old town streets. My server offered to translate the entire menu, a nice touch, but not sure that is during peak hours. She...
