The taste of the food is very good. The staff were all super friendly. The prices and portion sizes are why we will not go back. And before we are told that it's because of importing certain ingredients...3€ each for a small Brisa, 2€ for espresso, has nothing to do with importing, only taking advantage of tourists on holiday. An hour and 40 minutes into their lunch service they still couldn't serve the special of the day because it wasn't ready. HINT: erase it from your chalk board outside, when ready, place it back on offer. No excuses from the staff needed. Bringing in groceries and stocking is best done before service instead of during service provides a nicer quality dining experience for the customer. Serving some Mexican rice along with the entrees or even some tortilla chips & salsa when the wait for the meal (which took an hour to bring out, luke warm not even hot) would go a long way to help improve the quality of service. Thank you for your response. I welcome the chance to help improve the quality of service by mentioning these areas for improvement. Very slow lunch service consisting of only two tables, our four top and a two top in the alley. Taking more than an hour to deliver 2 orders tacos and 2 orders burritos when not busy, and having guests leave hungry is inexcusable for a restaurant, no matter the quality. 300% marked up brisas. For the plate price the amount of protein on my plate was not cost out correctly. The location while downtown in tourist central is in an alley and doesn't have a spectacular view to justify the location surcharge you mentioned. +/- 20€ per person for a slow Mexican food lunch is just too much, especially to leave hungry and nobody should leave a restaurant hungry. Hungry patrons will be better served elsewhere. If you want a small overpriced snack delivered hours after ordering when the establishment is not busy, this is the place for you.

We had passed this popular place a day earlier and when we saw the rating, we knew we had to return for dinner. Colorful floral tablecloths under tables with umbrellas make for a charming outdoor setting. The waiter was pushy, trying to upsell us constantly, which felt uncomfortable, but I guess to be a common practice in this touristy historic district. We enjoyed the Birria Tacos and the Cochinita Pibil (Marinated Pork with Veggies) Tacos, although our waiter was unable to recommend anything when we asked. He just said the chicken is chicken and the beef is beef. When the food did arrive at our colorful outdoor table, it was so well presented and quite good. We really loved the soup. The two sauces were both really good. One was tangy (white/green) and the other one (orange) was very hot, which we learned from tasting, not from a heads up. The veggies were colorful and the tacos were works of art. We enjoyed them with a small and a large draft of local beer. If you're looking for Mexican, this is a solid choice. The taco dinner was just the right amount, in spite of our waiter's skepticism that we weren't having an appetizer. I'd give the food a solid 4.5 stars, but the service a 3.9. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 stars

We were craving tacos for lunch and came across Casa Mexico on Google so decided to give it a try. So glad we did! We were able to grab a seat outside, it was nice that nobody was outside the restaurant trying to lure you in like others on the same street. It was quiet, relaxed and chill. We both got the Casa Mexico cocktail which was delicious, and we shared the birria, tuna and baja california tacos. Everything was so delicious, but the baja california were our favourite!! My only criticisms are that we enjoy a little more spice in Mexican food (although I have seen other reviewers complain about the spiciness, so perhaps this is something Casa Mexico have changed to cater to more of their customers), and we expected our tuna taco to come with raw tuna but it was cooked. Not a problem, everything was still so good. The staff were caring, attentive and very generous. We finished our meal with a jug of white sangria which was beautiful and refreshing. Overall, a 10/10 experience and would definitely go back when in Funchal again!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Casa Mexico – A Gem in Funchal!

Casa Mexico is hands down one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Funchal. From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere made us feel right at home. The staff were incredibly attentive, friendly, and genuinely passionate about what they do – you can tell this isn’t just a job for them, it’s something they take real pride in.

The food? Absolutely phenomenal. Every dish we ordered was bursting with bold, authentic Mexican flavors – beautifully spiced, fresh, and perfectly presented. The guacamole was creamy and vibrant, the tacos were loaded with delicious fillings, and the enchiladas had just the right amount of kick. The portions were generous without being overwhelming, and everything was cooked to perfection.

What really stood out, though, was the exceptional customer service. Every member of the team was warm, helpful, and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great evening. They explained dishes when asked, accommodated dietary preferences, and checked in just the right amount without being intrusive.

Casa Mexico offers more than just a meal – it’s a full cultural experience, with décor, music, and hospitality that transport you straight to Mexico. It’s clear the team put a lot of heart into every detail.

We left with full bellies and happy hearts. This place deserves all the praise – we’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Madeira. Highly,...
