FugaCidade — Restaurant in Funchal

I'm a local and I used to come here with a group of friends frequently, we would order some food and/or drinks and play board games, we always had a fun time, everything was great and we thought we were welcome here, well turns out we were sorely mistaken. Recently my friends came here (I was not present this time), and while leaving they were treated in a rude and aggressive manner by one of the employees, apparently for not spending enough money (please keep in mind the group always orders something whenever we go). He raised his voice at them and said that from now on if we want to go there we must make a reservation beforehand and spend a minimum of 10€ per person. I think at the very least they should've been approached respectfully since we were frequent costumers. Me and my friends will definitely never be coming back here and I'll make sure to warn everyone else I know to avoid this establishment. Also as a side note I'd like to mention that I am vegan and I can't have any of the food on the menu, and I also cannot drink alcohol or carbonated drinks for medical reasons, so I can never order much of anything for myself, usually my friends are the ones ordering either food or drinks, but I guess that wasn't enough...

We've been regulars at this establishment nearly every Friday since the summer of 2024, always coming as a group (between 5 to 9 people), and we've consistently ordered both drinks and food. It used to be our go-to spot to relax and enjoy our evenings.

However, this past Friday (April 2025), we had a truly unpleasant experience. On this particular night, we chose to order only drinks. As we were leaving, the man who works there, instead of speaking to us politely, started yelling. He said it was disrespectful of us to have “consumed so little,” and that from now on, we would only be allowed back with a reservation and a minimum spend of €10 per person.

We’ve been loyal customers for months, and to be treated like that was completely shocking. That kind of attitude ruins any good reputation the place might have had.

We’re never coming back, and we’ll make sure others know about this too. I’ll be telling everyone I know, and I’ll ask them to spread the word, no one deserves to be...

If you love beer, wine, food and great hospitality,.... Just go!!!!! What a lovely afternoon. Thank you Duerte and Grace (sorry if I have spelt the names wrong) A wonderful selection of beers from all over Portugal on tap,Blackcurrant sour, IPA, Pale, Red Ale, Imperial Cognac stout that was truly sensational, too many beers to mention in bottle, also good ol Heineken on tap if you just want regular. A fabulous wine list which I didn't get to, but I'm sure would be equally served with the same passion and knowledge. The food changes daily, no menu, all home cooked, main courses looked delicious, but I just requested a sandwich and nibbles and Grace immediately accommodated suggesting fresh crusty bread, fresh cheese and tomato, which was as she said simple and yummy. Add to this, broad beans with onion and peppers, crisps,olives and a little tasting of the cows liver to pick at, I was a very happy chap indeed. I cannot...
