I have tried this place earlier today based on the overall review ratings and I left extremely dissapointed with the food. I have been eating in quite a few places on the island in the last 8 days so I am definetely able to compare quality, price, quantity, etc...I was shocked by my limpets portion plate....quite a JOKE. When it arrived it looked like somebody ate more than half and then they brought it to me....I counted there were 9 limpets in the pan, some very small...for 12.5 euros...Shocking. It was less than half the portion I had in other places...where they were even cheaper and tastier. Very dissapointed!!! The vegetable soup was very average as well.

Pretty good food we had the chief special fried prawns and the sea bream with chips and salad, both very enjoyable. Started with a glass of Poncha, creme catalan for desert slightly spoiled by the house variant which is doused in sambucca and set alight. Creme catalan and aniseed is a flavour too far. Finished with coffee and madiera and a complementary passion fruit liquor. Staff were old school and very pro. Atmosphere jolly, mostly non Portuguese diners, some posh Brits. The Poncha was a bit more expensive than we were led to believe, but it's pretty nice of you like sweet rum fruit drinks which I do.

We were a bit unsure of somewhere to eat on our first evening in Funchal. We wandered a bit and eventually came across this nice restaurant. Always avoid a restaurant that has pictures of the food, so they say, but we decided to have a go. Good decent food at a good price was the outcome. Friendly waiters also. If you want to buy a motorcycle, that option is available close by. It wouldn't be a scenic area but we saw a lovely full moon rising over the rooftops. Liked it here, pretty easygoing. Would recommend.

Tried many restaurants in Funchal but you can't beat this one on price/quality/service. The food is local, no frills, and very good. Grilled dorada is well done but still moist and fleshy, unlike in other places. Mixed seafood with rice is full of flavours. You never wait too long for your meal. The octopus is soft and not chewy (they love garlic there though). The staff make you feel welcome, are a pleasure to chat to (even when you meet them in the street the next day), and deserve full respect for what they do. You get a welcome taster of Madeira wine...
