Arbor Food & Coffee — Restaurant in Funchal

It seems like a lot of local guides and influencers are getting paid to promote this place and give it 5star reviews, please don't get fooled by these like we did.

There is a very limited menu, half of which was not available on the day we visited. The prices are twice as much as that of other coffee shops in Madeira. The pistachio cake was nice but not worth €4 they charge. Banana waffles were disgusting, so bad that we couldn't eat more than two bites. Avocado toast was eatable but the wrong proportions of ingredients, too much avocado, the bread was lost and soggy. Cold Coffee was ok but we had much better at a much more reasonable price elsewhere. Our server asked how the food was and when I said the waffles were a big disappointment he just shrugged saying he will tell the kitchen.

There seem to be a cafe dog, a white dog that was roaming around the outdoor and indoor seating area trying to sniff customers food, sitting next to the tables putting his mouth in plates that people were eating in, hoping for a bite. Some people might be ok with this but it was making us and most of other customers very uncomfortable.

The outside garden and seating area is lovely but unfortunately that's about the only positive thing I can say...

This restaurant has seriously disappointed me. I used to come here often because the prices were good for things like Pastrami Sandwich, even though the food was okay and service was SLOW.

Recently, they raised their prices by more than 50% on many dishes on the menu, but the quality of the food and the service didn't improve at all.

The last time I visited, the restaurant was almost empty, but it still took them over 30 minutes to serve a simple sandwich. This sandwich that was 7.5€ is now 11€ - they just bumped the price 46% overnight!

A tiny glass of orange juice is 4€ lol. This is preposterous!

It's unreasonable to increase prices so much without making the food or service better.

To the owners: if you decide to raise your prices, make sure that you also improve your food and service. Otherwise, it feels like you are just taking more money from your customers without giving them anything better in return.

I suggest finding another place to eat where your money will be...

Good food, bad service.

Ordered a decaf cappucino with oat milk, and got one with real milk instead. I mentioned this, since I immediately noticed it and am lactose intolerant. I got a new cappucino, and this time it was not decaf (the taste, smell and color was significantly stronger). I didn’t bother mentioning this. I also wanted some kimchi on the side of my salad, since I saw it in the cheese toast dish.

When I went to pay, I noticed the high bill and saw I was being charged two cappuccinos with two oat milks extras (8 Euros), and an entire cheese toast dish (6 Euros) for the kimchi side. I mentioned this and I got a disrespectful and unprofessional response. The waiter took off one cappuccino (3 Euros), but that was it.

I was fine with paying more, and mentioned it would have been nice to know this before ordering. The waiter just turned her head and gave me the card reader to pay the bill.

Not coming...
