We were here for two times, once we've arrived to Madeira, and second time 3 days later. We had to come back because burger and sandwiche were brilliant! I had Denis burger, and my girlfriend had tuna sandwiche (you actually get reeaaal tuna steak in it). We are coming from the sea side of Croatia, so my girlfriend knows what is good tuna steak, but she said this was one of the best she has ever had. Next time I came to try "the challenge", 2kg burger! 😁🍔 Of course I couldn't finish it, but the price of 12 euros is really more than affordable! As I said to the ladies that served us, it is to much cabbage and tomatos inside so burger gets really wet and it is not that tasty anymore. For the challenge size should stay the same, but think about putting less of cabbage and tomatos, and swap it with something else (cheese, bacon, gherkins etc.) Service was fabulous, both ladies really kind! One of them lived in London for a few years so she took some time to have a nice conversation with us while her colleague were covering other tables. Deserved every penny, both! Will come back to Madeira and Hamburgueria do Mercado! All the best!

We visited this place for lunch as we spotted it the night before and got curious to try this burger place. We didn't go wrong: it's a good spot for a quick, tasty and filling meal. We ordered two of their special "sandwiches" (if you can call them that way) which consist of the traditional Madeira bread "bolo do caco" filled with steak, ham, cheese, lettuce and tomato. The other one had a chicken breast fillet, brie cheese, lettuce and tomato. Both servings were generously big and included fries as a side with an "alioli" style sauce. To drink we had a couple of homemade refreshments: a lemonade and a passion fruit juice - they were a bit acid (which is normal) but still nice. For desert we got a slice of cheesecake to share which the staff was kind enough to split and serve in different plates! We both had a coffee with our desert and when the bill came we were pleasantly surprised. I definitely recommend Hamburgueria do Mercado if you are in Funchal old town and want a fast and delicious meal.

Unfortunately this was very disappointing. The place looked nice from the outside and we were excited to try it. We waited nearly an hour for our food, and several times the staff told us it would be another 5 minutes. We got up to pay for our drinks and leave, and we were told to wait. Suddenly our food arrived. I had ordered the Burguesinha, and it was absolutely swimming in sauce. As in it literally came in a bowl of sauce (see photo). You couldn't pick it up and eat it like a burger. Apparently this is intentional, but you wouldn't know it, from reading the menu. If I had known I'd have ordered something else. I also had the maize strips. They were OK, not much flavour though and a bit soggy in the middle. After a few bites I found a piece of eggshell inside (see photo), and I left the rest. I'm sorry to say that my wife's food and the drinks were also disappointing. We were not the only ones who were unhappy with our food. Several tables were confused when their food arrived, food was being sent back to the kitchen, and another guy near us got up and left after waiting too long. I think there was some kind of kitchen disaster because there was a lot of smoke at some point, and the staff seemed pretty stressed. So maybe we were unlucky and came on the wrong day, but on this particular day it was bad. To their credit, the staff were apologetic, they gave us some drinks to make up for the wait time, and we did not pay for the burger soup or the maize strips. Finally, I've noticed the owner replying to other negative reviews saying they will "analyse the feedback", or just trying to discredit the reviewer. Please don't. Please take this review in the spirit in which it was intended, and put your energy into fixing the problems at hand instead. Thanks.

We went there for lunch. Unfortunately I can't understand the good ratings. We ordered 2 Burgers without fries and 2 homemade Lemonades. When the drinks arrived, we only got 1 homemade Lemonade and a brisa soft drink. We mentioned this to the waitress. 5 min later we received a wrong drink the 2nd time. A fruit milk shake this time. Again we told (another waitress) about our order. Another 5min later, when we already had our food, the correct drink finally arrived. The story continues here. They brought us our burgers with fries. In the end, not a big deal since we did not have to pay for them. However when we received the food, we asked for cutlery, which we did not receive till the end of our stay. Now let's start with the food. The Burger was ok, 4/5 stars. I ordered the "Market" Burger. The amount of 5 Cheese sauce was rather minimalistic. Since we also received fries, I can say that we didn't like them. They were soaky and not crispy at all. 2/5 stars. The service was definitely a 1/5. Therefore its 2/5 total.

Overall, it has a very pleasant public image. For us it felt like the execution has some limitations tho. The interior was somewhat hotter than outside and the tables outside were a bit sticky, chairs looked a bit dirty and not that comfortable. And unfortunately, there were pigeons annoying the customers, but not sure whether the place can do anything about that. The service varied depending on the waiter who came - some people were rather slow in serving us. We had the pesto burger and it was a bit dry and with only 1 slice of mozzarella, but in general tasted okay. The filling of the chicken sandwich would need a bit more vegetables and cheese, while the meat could be a bit thinner and crispier. Passionadas were too sour to our taste. The food was fine, but nothing we would come back for. It is okay for a quick bite considering the prices.

From the start service was a bit off. But I carried on with the mission of ordering a mushroom burger that I read from reviews that it was good here on Google. In three words, “Not a Fan”. Burger appears to be or at very least taste like a frozen burger. Toppings consisted of, some sort of Mayo, lettuce, and tomatoes. Then through the grace of God or some higher being, while writing this review sitting and chewing on this burger I noticed something moving on my plate. Sure enough it was some sort of maggot. Immediately spit the rest of what was in my mouth out and notified the restaurant. Needless to say, they offered to remove it from my bill and I carried on with my day. Would I come back or recommend this place, sadly, absolutely not.
