What a good find this place was. It is a proper family business set up by three cousins (its all on the website) and they have created something really special. I also loved that they are the working masters in the business. We saw all three of them working the floor while we were there.
Its a health food restaurant and has a large number of items on the menu are vegan friendly but I didn’t feel the the healthiness was forced on me. It’s a clever menu that combines wholesome food with fabulous taste. I didn’t even know that I was in a healthy establishment until I saw it on the website (although thats why my wife selected in for breakfast).
We popped in for breakfast and treated ourselves to the brunch. If you have time and enough space in your tummy, check it out. It is a feast of yoghurt, eggs and pancakes, all arriving only after you’ve finished the previous course. I also had one of the special milkshakes and it too was top notch.
The decor is uber cool and i can see why it attracts the number of people it does. The service was very friendly and helpful. We were looked after by one of the founders.
Whilst there are places like this, why would you go to a big brand hotel for a pre-heated bland breakfast?
I couldn’t recommend this more highly. We loved it and have booked to go back for lunch before we go home - so look out for an update and more photos.
Update - we returned for lunch which was just as good. We shared a Ceviche Lagom to start. It was fabulous. The citrus dressing complimented the fish perfectly. For mains, I had the Melaka bowl with salmon. It worked really well. My wife had the Asian bowl and...
Read moreI had marked this forever on my list of new places to try when we walked in here one morning. The menu for breakfast consists of two pages, so it’s not too overwhelming. Our whole family was quickly able to find something that sounded good.
As many reviewers have stated, the coffee here comes from a Nespresso machine. While this in itself does not present as a problem, the missing expertise in preparing the milk foam is unfortunate. If I pay 1,5€ for plant milk then I also expect the person behind the counter to be able to foam it correctly. The coffee itself was not unpalatable. It was okay - but nothing more than that, not calling for a second order and certainly not worth a price of 4,9 Euros for a decaf oat galao.
Breakfast arrived after a bit of waiting and was good. The poached eggs come from either a silicone or metal form, so they are not poached in water directly. I didn’t like the fact that the bacon that the cafe charged 1 Euro per slice for was the typical Madeiran style. For that price I would suggest using the real deal with a better quality.
It’s also in my opinion quite steep to pay 3 Euros for a cha de limao.
Service was friendly and everyone spoke very good English.
My family left quite happy and satiated.
Don’t come here for the coffee if you are a coffee nerd. Otherwise, it’s quite a nice place, if the prices are...
Read moreAbsolutely one of the best, if not the best place for brunch/lunch in all of Funchal. There are so many great things about this place, that it’s hard to know where to begin. Okey, let’s start with the interior, which is both calming and gorgeous with its natural stone and moss covered walls. The ceiling as well is covered with pleasant lighting - also with mossy decor. Then let’s talk about the staff. Friendly, service oriented, humble and well dressed. And lastly, the natural highlight of any good restaurant - the food. The food is a absolutely amazing. A small, but excellently composed menu containing something for every taste. Fresh produce, of course, and a perfect taste mixture. In every dish we have tried, nothing is out of place. Everything fits perfectly together, for you to enjoy. We found ourselves wanting to try everything on the menu, so we ended up ordering 2-3 dishes every time we visited. Never disappointed. If you find yourself going through the entire menu after three visits, then don’t worry. You can always try one of the starters, soups, dishes or deserts of the day. One word of warning through, this place is packed during lunch hours on weekdays, so reserve a table in advance or show up early. As you probably can’t tell by now dear reader, we cannot recommend this place...
