Jardim Da Carreira — Restaurant in Funchal

A place with much potential, but could do alot better. We took the 3-course menu, with a price of €14.5, considered relatively cheap. Tomato onion soup, mixed grill and fruit salad. Soup was the highlight of the meal. The mixed grill consisted of 2 pieces of chicken and 2 of steak on a skewer, served on a plate (not the madeira special). Chicken was good, beef was hard and did not tasted fresh. The metal skewer was cold for some reason but the meat was warm. The fruit salad consist of chunks of apple, few melon pieces and little orange. It was fresh but just mehh.

The garden looks nicer than it is, could use some attention and an upgrade. The parasol was dirty and tip would be to do something about the mosquitoes for when sitting outside. It could be an amazing place where they should upgrade the food,...

Like many others here, I actually don’t understand the good reviews - different cooks?

Place being old could be a charm point for some, so it’s not being graded on that. However, the starters were cold, the service is incredibly slow (40 mins between starter and mains) and the mains had some food that was starting to go off (be careful with the fish, lest you want to risk food poisoning). Some of the skewered meat was charred. The wine bottles are overpriced.

Additionally, two of the owners (they looked like the owners) were hovering about the place, which made us slightly uncomfortable, especially seeing how bad the food was. 1/5 because I...

The food sucked. Really not good! We will not be back. The staff was really nice and had a nice garden. The first course we had mussels and shrimp and i was a bit scared of food poisoning here, my boyfriend had the normal shrimp. As a main we had fish with banana that was very sweet and the greens were full of water. The tuna steak was very dry and the sides without seasoning. The dessert we had both chocolate mouse but it tasted like only sugar and I didn't even taste the chocolate. Overall the staff was nice but dont eat here! The menu was €14,50 but not...
