Lido Beach Club — Restaurant in Funchal

a huge disappointment of a dining place. went there at the end of our holiday, were really wishing to have one last tasty meal near the beach in a nice atmosphere, but were met with food that tasted and smelled like vomit and staff that did absolutely nothing to make our experience at least a bit better.

we ordered four risottos with shrimps and one shrimp salad. risotto was just plain rice in an awfully smelling and tasting liquid. same for the salad. the only edible thing there were salad leaves and even they were spoiled by the sauce, which made it impossible to eat. shrimps were cold and uncooked, soft and almost falling apart. it felt like they were taken out of the freezer and put back multiple times in a row until finally were thrown into our food.

two of our friends were first to reach this restaurant after the beach while we were still in the dressing rooms, so they made an order for us. when we reached the place, the food was being brought out. so we received and tried it at the same time. however, when we addressed our complains to the waiter, he just shrugged it off and told us that “it’s not his problem that our friends decided to order it for us and we should have ordered something else instead”. it made no sense, because by his logic they would have tried the dish first and then ordered it for us, which still isn’t the best argument, because none of us could finish even half of our food, so it was equally bad. then the waiter tried blaming us again, because in his opinion all five of us had a “unique taste” and “the food wasn’t the problem”. after some further complaining we were met with very quiet “sorry” and nothing else.

still paid a 80 euro bill for an empty stomach (one person from our group also had diarrhea at the airport thanks to that) and a ruined mood. don’t order here anything with shrimps (specifically) or simply go to any other place. every other risotto that we’ve had on the island was perfect. this one will only give you stomachache. very...

We sat down 10am, not realising its only Lido Beach Club tables. We purchased an ice cream for my toddler at the shop directly opposite the tables. A waiter approached us from the Lido Beach Club and was very sarcastic and very confrontational. We explained that we didn’t know it was ONLY the middle restaurants tables. (As it has no signs and is directly opposite the ice cream shop). He would not let it go. He kept confronting us and wanted to being us a “bill” for sitting there (even though they were still opening up and we were the only people!!!). He hounded is away in front of our small child.

Angry & aggressive staff to my 80 year old mother, she mistakenly sat down at one of their tables, which is directly across from an ice cream shop, not knowing she was sitting at another establishment. The waiter from Lido Beach Club, a "man" who called himself Phillipe, was yelling at my frail 80 year old mother to get out of his restaurant as she needs to pay to sit there. We all appologized profusely and got mom up to move immediately, but this "man" wouldnt stop yelling, getting right into our faces.
