Really enjoyed our stay here.
On arrival we were greeted by friendly, helpful staff who had us checked in in no time at all. Everything was explained well and our luggage was taken to our room for us.
The room was on the 9th floor. Spacious and clean. The balcony had a table and two chairs, with a side view of the sea, overlooking the courtyard seating area and indoor pool. Bed comfort was OK, my husband struggled to get comfortable, even with the choice of two pillow types, I was fine. The housekeeping team were always friendly and helpful if we needed anything. Shower pressure could have been better, the design of the shower and short screen meant water easily splashed out onto the floor.
Breakfast was included in our stay. The food was repetitive but it caters for a lot of guests and there was more than enough available to mix it up during our stay. The coffee machines seemed to be a bit hit and miss. Often one of the three available was out of use. It was great eating outside, especially with the lovely lady and her birds of prey keeping any pesky gulls and pigeons away. Nice touch!
The location is great, right on the route to Funchal Town. An easy walk if you like a reasonable long stroll or use one of the local buses, they're reliable and inexpensive. There is a bus stop a short walk from reception. Staff were helpful with our queries and booked our dolphin catamaran excursion.
Didn't use the gym or spa as we were out a lot of the time exploring the island but the indoor pool was lovely in the morning before breakfast.
Room service, the pool bar and the bar by reception were all good. Prices are very reasonable and service was great.
The free secured car park under the hotel was ideal for our little rental car and took the stress out of parking around the hotel.
There are some lovely bars along the side of the hotel and restaurants. You can't really go wrong dining in Madeira!
Thanks for a wonderful stay. We look forward...
Read moreDear Hotel Management,||||I am writing to express my disappointment with several aspects of my recent stay at your hotel, Meliã Madeira Mare, from which I am departing tomorrow.||||We are a party of three people in two rooms (414 and 535), staying for two weeks, having paid approximately 180,000 CZK (around €7,200), including a premium for sea view rooms. Given that this is a 5-star hotel, our expectations were high – and unfortunately, they were not met.||||Here are the main issues we experienced:|| • Housekeeping was inadequate throughout the stay. My room was not cleaned properly, and there were visible stains on the bed sheets.|| • My parents were not provided with the complimentary bottled water that is advertised as a daily amenity. For two consecutive days, they also did not receive any soap or toiletries.|| • One of my key cards was stolen, and I did not feel that the matter was handled with proper attention.|| • To make matters worse, your staff falsely accused me of breaking a glass during dinner, which I absolutely did not do.|| • I contacted my Czech travel agency (Čedok) and their local delegate, but they refused to assist me and fully sided with your staff, without any willingness to listen or investigate my side of the story.||||I am not asking for compensation. However, I believe your management should be made aware of how guests are being treated – with negligence, disinterest, and in some cases, false accusations. I will be contacting Čedok and asking them to reconsider including your hotel in their future offerings.||||This experience has unfortunately tainted what was supposed to be a relaxing and high-standard vacation.||||Sincerely,||Ing. Radomír Piszczur||Room numbers: 414 & 535||Date of departure:...
Read moreWe recently stayed at Melia Madeira Mare and had a nice experience. The reception, bar, and restaurant staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.
Our room was spacious, well-maintained, and offered a nice sea view—a perfect retreat after a day out, if only the weather had been better. However, the shower water pressure was adequate but left room for improvement.
We were also impressed with the bar next to reception. The drinks were well-crafted, high-quality, and reasonably priced and the bar staff were really nice. The pool area provided a lovely spot to relax and unwind, and we found the free underground parking, with access linked to our room key, to be a very convenient and secure feature.
The location of the hotel is excellent, situated in an upmarket area with a good selection of restaurants nearby, making it easy to explore and enjoy the local dining scene.
The main letdown for us was the breakfast experience. While the breads, cakes, fruit, and salad items were fine, the overall ambiance of the breakfast room felt more like a works canteen than a relaxing dining space, even allowing for the fact that this is really a five-star tourist hotel, rather than a true five-star luxury hotel. The hot food options, aside from the freshly cooked eggs/omelettes (which were good), were disappointing, with items like tinned mushrooms and ultra-processed meats detracting significantly from the quality - I just can't eat them.
Overall, while there’s room for improvement in the breakfast, the Melia Madeira Mare has much to offer. We loved the location, the amenities, and especially the welcoming staff and I would stay again, if...
