Porka — Restaurant in Funchal

Nice restaurants with lovely singer (live music) and nice atmosphere due to the cool looking bar.

The food was good. Personally I didn't really like the beef ribs. The sauce is too sour and the braised meat is too "heavy" for 25 degree weather and then they also put the mashed corn stuff below the meat. We would eat that in winter time in the Netherlands. I could have known before I ordered but didn't expect the dish to be like this.

Anyway the salmon and pork ribs were nice. Also the chicken wings and chorizo as starters were nice (please explain that the chorizo is pre cooked to guests).

Drinks are good but the bartender especially made it even better. Very happy and friendly guy. The other waiters did not really look like they were enjoying themselves and were not very attentive.

One tip. Use semi whipped cream with your Irish coffee. From a can with whipped cream you can't make Irish coffee..

Had a bad experience here. Having read the reviews now, I should not have been surprised by what happened. A whole glass of Sangria was spilled all over my lap. I have worked in hospitality before and understand that accidents do happen. The very first thing you do is apologise sincerely to the customer. The waiter who had spilled the drink over me did not! He just said that he should be behind the bar, not serving tables. Then after he had dried himself, he brought a small wet cloth for me. I had to go into the restaurant to ask for something absorbant to dry my clothes. He was still not apologetic. Other staff should have come to my assistance, but there was no one. My husband and i went there for dinner. My husband ordered the pork ribs and i ordered the thai green curry with scabbard tempura. The pork ribs were very good, but unfortunately, the thai curry was the worst curry i've ever eaten in my life. I'm from asia, and i think it's quite sad to say this is a "thai curry" , because this is far beyond a curry. The sauce was really weird and i believe there was pandan essence in it and it was just overpowering everything. I could not even eat the sauce, i had to scrape the sauce from all the seafood. It might be better for them to cook something else that they're familiar with rather than cook something they are unfamiliar with, and turn out to be something that is unexpected. Service was great!
