Restaurante A Vela — Restaurant in Lagoa

Have dined at Vela several times over the years and even though we're not much for reviews we just had to put in a word regarding this wonderfully run restaurant after tonight's visit. It is; within this category of restaurant and everything considered, the best in Carvoeiro. Yes, Antonia is all over the place but efficiently so. If you've been in her shoes you'd know she has it under control and man is she honest and able to change the conversation from one language to another in a split second. The food is absolutely delicous, carefully prepared and presented and consistent. If Antonia says it is fresh then it is but if frozen (which in some cases has to be) she will also point it out. Nowadays one cannot seem to get consistency - one day everything is awesome and then a total flop the day after - off course most often this is staff related. We had the absolute pleasure of visiting this restaurant, and it was an experience I will never forget. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, making you feel comfortable the moment you step inside. The owner, Antonia, is a truly delightful woman — she approaches every guest with genuine warmth and interest, creating the feeling that you are being welcomed into her own home.

The food is simply outstanding. Every dish is prepared with care and bursting with flavor, making it clear that both passion and love go into the cooking. Food was sub parr , pretty sure some was microwaved and the meat was lacking size and flavour , lamb seemed old and very greasy , we had to send rhe calamari back for another meal and was presented with the same dish that had been deep fried to a crisp , so sent back again , for the price is was very disappointing, we made the owner aware of the problems and was told they try there best.

The response to this sums up the service , lack of care about the food and customer , excuses. Being from a "society" of friends and family in Michelin star restaurants i can still assure you this is not fresh homemade food . Thanks...
