We dined in at 8pm, the waiters were very nice and appointed us a table for 2. Later they asked us to move to another table because they needed the table for a bigger group (the other table was next to us) but he asked it very nicely and kind, so it was no problem.
We ordered the cocktail of the day, which turned out to be the Moscow mule, which we loved. The cocktails were the right amount of sweetness with ginger and were very refreshing.
I ordered the sailored style fish on recommendation of Luca. Luca also helped my girlfriend choose her dish, she is a very tough one when it comes to making choices (she is never able to make a choice without a little push) so Luca provided her with an detailed explanation on how things looked/are prepared and what is best on the menu.
When we received the dishes we were amazed at how much fish were given to us for the price we paid (17,95 and 18,95) I ordered the sailored style fish and my girlfriend ordered the Cod that was cooked the barril way.
Both our dishes were delicious and very filling. My girlfriend loved her fish and I did too (as I ate half her dish cause she was full)
We did not order a dessert because we were both full and didn't leave room for dessert. Then Luca gave us a recommendation to give us some cocktails with the game we were playing.
When trying to pay the bill I walked up to the stand to ask for the bill (which turned out to be an offensive thing to do) Luca wasn't offended and explained to me later why it can offend restaurant owners or waiters. In Holland it is very normal to walk up and pay, here it means the food was not good.
I've seen other reviews which said "the service was very bad" personally I did not experience any bad service. Yes at the start the menu card came a bit late, but as we both worked in the food sector we knew it was because they all thought someone was already taking care of us. They explained this as well and apologized deeply for it.
Conclusion: The food was amazing, the service was very good and the atmosphere was very relaxed and welcoming. And Luca is now placed in my top 5 best waiters I've encountered.
Ignore the other reviews in terms of service and just reserve...
Read moreA Delightful Experience in Ferragudo
During my recent week-long holiday in Ferragudo, Portugal, I had the pleasure of dining at two fantastic restaurants and enjoying some of the best gelato I’ve had.
The beautiful town of Ferragudo, with its charming main square, is home to Salga, O Barril, and Doce Gelateria.
Salga and O Barril, both situated in the heart of Ferragudo’s main square, offer an outstanding dining experience. When I first attempted to walk in on a Monday evening, both restaurants were fully booked. However, the ever-helpful Felipe, the manager, suggested that I make a reservation, which I promptly did for the following days.
On Wednesday, I dined at O Barril and returned on Thursday for a meal at Salga.
From the moment I arrived, Felipe and his attentive team made me feel incredibly welcome. Their warm hospitality set the tone for the entire evening. The service was impeccable, with staff who were not only efficient but also genuinely friendly.
The food at both Salga and O Barril was simply superb. Each dish was prepared with the freshest ingredients and presented beautifully. Whether you’re a fan of seafood, meat, or vegetarian options, both restaurants offer a diverse menu that caters to all tastes.
No visit to Ferragudo would be complete without a stop at Doce, the Gelateria in the main square. After my meals, I couldn’t resist trying the gelato, and I was not disappointed. The gelato at Doce is great.
It’s the perfect way to end an evening in this picturesque town.
My experience at Salga, O Barril, and Doce was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of superb food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere made my visit unforgettable. I can’t fault any aspect of these establishments, and I’m already planning my return in 2025. If you find yourself in Ferragudo, these spots are a...
Read moreStopped here for an evening meal on the basis of a recommendation from friends. It's a cosy restaurant inside and has been very well renovated. They also offer outside seating within the main square which would be great on a warm evening.
The service was friendly, helpful and happy.
Our food was all very tasty, especially the rib eye steak I had, simply amazing. All of the food was beautifully presented. Personally I would opt for the main meals over the tapas dishes as I felt they were better prepared. Although we were in no rush food wait times were more extensive than usual. The wine selection on offer is also fantastic, we treated ourselves to a nice red wine which was aerated and decanted at our table.
I would recommend this restaurant for a fancy meal one night during...
