Restaurante Portarade offers a good lunch menu with many options. In our opinion and recollection, however, not much has changed in recent years we have lived here in Ferragudo, except for the price of the full lunch menu which has increased by approx. 50% since 2014. Then the price was € 9.50, now the full menu costs 14.50. We can not say whether this is bad or good, in our opinion it is just a fact. You get a great value for your money at Restaurant Portarade - couvert, starter, main course, drink and dessert. Fresh fish, and beautifully served.
Douradinhos - from the children's menu. This seems to be a type of fish fingers which is not made from real fish fillets. The restaurant charges 6 euros for the dish, which includes 3 fish fingers made from fish fillings. Maybe for a few cents more in cost and our kids could have real fish fingers. Children also deserve quality food. We have commented this to the staff before. Losing a star for this.
The internet in the outdoor area is slow and useless for streaming. We know that families with children will appreciate the opportunity to use a streaming service such as Youtube. Probably some other guests as well. So therefore we usually sit at the neighboring restaurant instead of having to use all our mobile data credits at Portarade. This has little to do with "favorite venues", as the owners comment, except that WiFi is much better next door. We assure you that our voice is not bought by any competitors. So, losing another star for poor outdoor WiFi.
The staff is nice and friendly. Always. If the staff had asked us if the fish fingers were good, we would tell our opinion again. We hoped there were an improvement.
If the restaurant wants to attract more residents, in our opinion, the restaurant needs more frequent updates in their menu, and also spend a bit on outdoor WiFi. How difficult can it be?
This review is written as accurately as possible, regardless of what the owners claim, and the facts are based on several visits in the last years. The owners do not comment on the fish fingers, but admit that WiFi is an issue. We've looking for old private photos to prove the menu. Found only a fraction of the menu from 2014, but it is proving our recollection.
We do not think it will help to tell staff face to face about such issues. Waiters can not do much about WiFi and poor fish fingers. The owners can. And owners react first when the problem is presented as here. Maybe the menu is designed for tourists who likely do not return to Ferragudo, and who have enough mobile data. In that case all is good. We do not know for sure, but we can assure you that we are happy to update this review whenever the restaurant offers usable internet to the large outdoor dining area, as well as real fish in the fish fingers. It should not cost that...
Read moreMy visit to this restaurant left me utterly frustrated and disappointed. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that something was amiss. The excruciatingly long waiting times for our dishes to arrive were nothing short of absurd. It felt like an eternity had passed before we even caught a glimpse of our food.
But the disappointment didn't stop there. When the plates finally made their way to our table, the portion sizes were shockingly minuscule. It was as if they were trying to stretch a tiny amount of food to cover an entire plate. I couldn't help but feel cheated and hungry, despite having paid a substantial amount.
Speaking of payment, the prices on the menu were exorbitant, considering the laughable portions we were served. It felt like a cruel joke to pay such high prices for so little sustenance. The mismatch between what was offered and what was charged was a bitter pill to swallow.
The experience left me questioning the restaurant's integrity and commitment to providing a satisfying dining experience. It's one thing to charge a premium for quality, but it's an entirely different matter to charge a premium for what can only be described as an insultingly inadequate meal.
In conclusion, this restaurant's combination of interminable wait times, paltry portions, and exorbitant prices makes it an establishment I cannot, in good conscience, recommend to anyone. It's a textbook example of how not to run a dining establishment, and my only regret is that I didn't heed the warning signs and choose a different place to eat. Some plates were big enough but i would not...
Read moreWhat a gem of a find in the heart of the cute fishing village, Ferragudo. We loved this place so much, we came back 3 times for lunch in a week! Great value from €15, €18 two course or €21 3 course. So many options for entree, mains and fresh desserts that change slightly each day. The octopus salad is a must try for entree, it was tender and a good serving - adding a bit of vinegar and salt really lifted the flavours. Freshly grilled sea bass was flavoursome and cooked perfectly - first time for sea bass. Also tried the grilled sardines which were just as fresh. Best part was dessert. The wait staff comes over to show you desserts of the day - the flourless orange cake is the most amazing orange cake I’ve had so far. While my friends religiously ordered the cinnamon cake all 3 times. Ice cream is extra but well worth it for vanilla with real vanilla beans. For those who love wine, each person is allocated a 375ml bottle or 500ml of sangria. Fantastic value and great vibe in this friendly, gorgeous fishing village.
FYI every second Sunday this town has a flea market and you can find almost anything. Great day out and the beach is wide with soft sand and clear waters. Parking is free...
