I don't share bad reviews - look at all my reviews and see that I am not one to just bash places. But wooooow was the service astonishingly bad. The man who turned out to be our waiter seemed annoyed to see us from the get go, then tried to refuse to let me order port? We came from Porto and Duoro Valley and never had anyone act like I was an idiot for wanting port at the beginning of the meal, but apparently in Carovoeiro, in this man's mind, it was the height of bad behaviour. Maybe it is, but really, why would he care so very much?
I was hungry so we asked for olives (which they charge for - fine). They came with plastic wrap on the dish. Apparently port is bad form, but plastic wrap at a table is good service.
We then waited so long to order that we just left cash on the table and left. We went to a MUCH better restaurant and I have to say - I am truly bewildered by these reviews. Maybe the food was worth it, but this was the only time in 10 days of Portugal I have been even a little upset by service - everyone is so kind here typically! It was some of the worst service I have ever experienced, in any country. I can't imagine how good the food would have to be to make...
Read moreWent for lunch a party of 6 we were greeted quickly by a waiter funny guy, he had us sitting at our table quickly. We were seated in a covered area outside the restaurant it was a very hot day but the area has plenty of cover and there was a nice breeze. We were presented with the main menus along with a chef’s suggestion menu, there was also a specials menu at the door. All the food was very reasonably priced and delicious. It came quickly without fuss we had vegetable soup for starters very fresh and tasty. For main I had pork in a mushroom sauce I always worry when I order meat with a sauce as often it used to disguise a lousy piece of meat. This was definitely not the case and it had been charcoal grilled so it was extremely tasty. Some had grilled fish again big fish grilled to perfection. If there is one negative the chairs are not very comfortable even with the cushions supplied. The deserts were very nice too they looked like home made. The bill came to €30 a person this included our drinks so very good value for money. Taking into account this is a holiday hot spot i think this restaurant does a first class job at a very reasonable price. 100% safe...
Read moreDecent place and decent service, with live music with a potential for improvement. As our first time in Portugal everything is new to us, as in this case the dishes and how they are prepared. We have been served by 3 different waiters. The first came for drinks, and I ordered the wine of the house and pointer in the menu to the white wine list. But after 10 min we received red. Unaware that the wine of the house has 3 choices, which were not represented by the waiter, instead he decided to bring red. The second waiter asking for the food order, we decided to share a meal of sea food, when I asked what is included and how is prepared I got the answer of obvious, “sea food with rice”. Not much enthusiasm about the dish. After 20 min a stew of sea food and rice came. And I was expecting grilled sea food with some kind of side dish accessory. Anyway, that’s how the recipe is and it tasted good and it kind a survived swimming in a red wine. The third waiter came for the dessert, which went very smoothly! Overall not much of enthusiasm in the service, except the hostess, and the singer who...
