I have visited Gurkha Kitchen twice this month, booking on both occasions by email, which got a very swift response. Both times, the restaurant was very busy, but we were accommodated in the seating that I had requested in my email, which was really nice and much appreciated. The food here is stunning. Tandoori chicken and Lamb Sukuti starters were glorious. I haven’t tasted better anywhere. For the main course, my companion had Ghurkali Mixed Grill Special sizzling dish, which was amazing. Plenty of variety, with a tikka sauce on the side, so a lovely meaty dish. The taste was so aromatic and fragrant. He would definitely have it again and would recommend it highly. I had Lamb Khasi, which was also a gorgeous choice. The spices were just perfect and it really hit the spot. Accompanied by mushroom pilau rice, it was very satisfying. The food was coupled with a white house wine, which was so mellow and Cobra beer, which is always a favourite. Ghurka Kitchen is on Rua das Amoreiras, a street on a hillside in Carvoeiro town centre. There is ample space for parking in the locality. The restaurant itself is so spacious and has a beautiful patio area, which is very large and airy, and there is protection overhead in case of rain. I had two all round great experiences here during this holiday. Staff can’t be praised highly enough. Very attentive to the clients and just happy to go the extra bit to ensure customer satisfaction. They are very busy, which is obvious, but will happily make time to chat and take a photograph, when requested by customers. I would definitely recommend Ghurka Kitchen to anyone who appreciates relaxation, comfort and cares about good food.

Environment- A pleasant setting away from the main road but not out of town, there us both indoor and out door seating. The decor could be improved, as with many Portuguese restaurants it looks clashy and dated. All being said the environment was clean and inviting. People- The staff were friendly, helpful, well presented and attentive. Clientelle were mostly tourists. I did not get a chance to meet the chef or manager. Tables are close so if you like privacy this is not for you. Food- Great selection of authentic gurkha dishes. Both my starter and main were gurkha special recipes and they were amazing. The food came in a reasonable amount of time, it was well cooked and consisted of decent sized portions. My Wife and daughter always have mild dishes which is an excellent test to see if they can cook without chilli and to compare the same dish in different resturants. The butter chicken was lovely here especially because of the tandoor oven. Lovely food, little bit pricey and needs a make over.

We came here as we rarely get the opportunity to enjoy Indian food and we had walked past this on one of our morning walks. The menu is a good size, with plenty of options for vegetarians and is very informative about the level of spice you can expect. The service was very friendly, helpful and attentive and couldn't be faulted. We also had some wine and mint chocolates after our meal, on the house, which was a lovely touch and made us feel welcome. We tried the shahi paneer, vegetable biryani, peshwari naan and mango lassi. All of these were very tasty and well-presented, and we were particularly impressed by the biryani. We both agreed that the food here was great quality, great value, and better than home! Overall, we would highly recommend coming here if you enjoy Indian food, we only wished we could have come here with all the family, as being able to order a number of dishes and share would have made the experience even better.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Absolutely Exceptional – A Culinary Gem!

We had the best time ever at Gurkha Kitchen — truly one of the finest Nepalese-Indian meals we’ve ever had! Every single dish was made exactly to our taste, with such care and precision that it felt like a home-cooked meal with restaurant finesse.

From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the sweetest gentleman at the entrance, lovingly waving at us — it immediately made us feel so special and at home. The service throughout was impeccable. Our waiter was incredibly kind and attentive, always checking in to make sure everything was just right. The entire team showed a level of thoughtfulness that’s so rare — for example, they brought out just one naan at first so it would stay hot and fresh when we were ready for the second. That kind of attention to detail blew us away.

We mentioned that we love authentic Indian spices, and they beautifully accommodated that, adjusting the flavors exactly as we’d hoped. The food was fresh, vibrant, and bursting with flavor. We also got some amazing recommendations from the staff, especially for Nepalese dishes we hadn’t tried before (beyond momos), and we were so glad we trusted them — it was a fantastic discovery.

Everything about the evening — the food, the warmth, the genuine care — made this experience unforgettable. Can’t recommend Gurkha Kitchen enough. A true gem in...

A few weeks ago we had lunch with a friend who spoke highly of this restaurant and everything was as she said it would be. Gurkha has a quaint setting in a location that one could easily pass by without knowing how special it is to dine there. It is a community treasure slightly off the “beaten path” for tourists visiting Carvoeiro. As soon as you walk up to the outdoor seating area, your olfactory senses will be heightened. The aroma wafting through the doors is tantalizing and the spices used are pleasantly fragrant and perfectly balanced. We have only high praise for the chef’s/cook’s expertise and talents. The food and wine is excellent and the service is impeccable at this establishment. Upon arrival, we were warmly received and attended to by a professional, highly respectful and accommodating young gentleman who introduced himself as Lax. His recommendations were excellent and the service we received was timed perfectly. We savored each bite and enjoyed the wine, which paired perfectly with what we had ordered. It was a wonderful first experience for us and we can’t recommend this place enough to those who have yet to dine here. We wish to thank Lax for his hospitality and impeccable service. We look forward to our next visit and dining...
