I know it's a different pace of life here, but there's a relaxing pace and then there is ridiculously, unbelievably slow. This was the latter. Waiting 40+ minutes for a pretzel with cheese, for example, is just unacceptable. We came at around 10ish on a weekday, and was surprised that not only do they have the entire lunch menu available already, but also the holiday dinner menu. Maybe don't offer so many dishes if the kitchen can't handle it? Just a suggestion for who I would assume is a very overworked chef. The restaurant had a few tables occupied with 2 servers when we arrived but nothing that would cause such a wait. It took a good 20 minutes to get a coffee and tea. And after having to flag down the other server since ours seemed to never come back, we ordered mains. It then took 50 mins for some toast, a poached egg, a pretzel, and a schnitzel. In fairness, the egg came out steaming so it had just been made. The pretzel was warm as well. That was nice. And we probably wouldn't have had as big an issue with the wait had it not been for the quality of the food and portion size. For avocado and toast, you get 1 egg. And the egg was overcooked, and the yolk broken. (See photo.) There was no flavour at all. It was just sliced (browned/bruised) avocado and a single overcooked egg on buttered toast. Not even any salt or pepper. (The sesame seeds and herbs look pleasant, but they added no flavour. Portuguese fresh herbs are not very potent.) The pretzel and cheese was fine, but the cheese was cold so I don't understand why it took so long? Do they bake pretzels to order? (If so, guests should be informed.) In all honesty though, the pretzel seemed like one you'd get from Aldi, just warmed up. I've had many fresh baked pretzels in my time and these aren't it. The schnitzel was well made and absolutely humongous! So, you definitely get what you pay for there. The accompanying salads look nice, but are a bit superfluous and hide the small portions of both the toast and the cheese/pretzel. Large serving of fries with the schnitzel though! Everything was nicely presented and looked appetising. Nothing was cold that shouldn't be. So, it was prepared properly (other than the egg), it just took far too long. We watched guests who arrived after us also waiting extraordinarily long for their food. The servers were not unfriendly, but they seemed disorganised, leading to slow service. And not checking on guests when they're waiting over 30min for toast, even to see if they'd like another coffee? Too bad. I had really wanted to come back for all the delicious sounding Christmas dinners/desserts, but after this experience, we just don't think the wait is truly worth the food and aren't really looking to spend 3 hours on what could be lacklustre dinner. UPDATE: visited recently as it is truly the only place in Lagos for solid schnitzel, and it was a much better experience. Service was effective, friendly, and quick. The food was lightning fast compared to last time and tasted great. Big improvement. 👍

One of the reasons to love Lagos is the variety of food choices that you have here. While the selection of Portuguese favorites are always around the corner, you sometimes crave something a bit more continental. The same folks that run Mare, the restaurant above the main market, have nested in a strategic point at the north end of town, near the auto bridge over to the east side of the canal. Your views are of the marina, so it's a very picturesque setting at the far end of the promenade. Munich does a good job bringing in German-themed dishes into a cafe style restaurant, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The ambience is nice, and you can tell they have designed the menu to be able to cater to everyone from the early risers, to the late-night party crowd. While I doubt any German visitor would reminisce about the fatherland while eating the fare from Munich, it is clear that the owners have copied their winning formula from Mare. Provide your customer with an overwhelming portion of food that is tasty and has a generous splash of spices and colors. Like our times at Mare, we found ourselves asking for takeaway boxes, not only due to the portion size, but because their food is so good, you want to relish it a second time. The service is very good too, with very attentive wait staff, and quick delivery on the food. We will definitely be returning, although next time it may be for a late night post-drinking bite, or possibly an early morning plate to start our day. We recommend you do, too.

Disgusting food. Waited for 30 minutes for our beers to arrive. Food arrives after 50 minutes. People arrives later than us being served before. Ordered a dark beer along with weiss beer. The Waiter even couldn't make the difference between both of that. The beef skewer was completely dried like a stone. 8 small slices of burned beef, tasteless and so awful that they don't even have any seasoning..better i would have eaten jerky....total waste to pay €19.90. 😖 The burger was so disgusting, the patty was bland.🤬 See the pictures as we threw all this disgusting food as it is and they compensate with a discount of €4.22. If it was possible to give 0 stars, i would have done that. Please don't make the same mistake as us and just walk by this place.

I will preface this review with everyone else in my party was happy with their food and I must have just ordered the dud on their menu.

This was the most underwhelming and disappointment in food for the price I've had since being in the U.S.

I got the essentials plate for breakfast. The fruit tea was bagged, which are full of micro plastics. The soft boiled egg was undercooked. The fresh produce wasn't ripe, cucumber wasn't peeled and was not the soft skinned cucumber but the hard waxy skin. The chia pudding was flavorless paste (chia pudding is a personal fav and I am versed in vegan cuisine on a professional level). The ham was crappy prepacked deli meat. The butter was cold and hard, unspreadable. The value of 15 euros for essential a flavorless un seasoned lunchable was extremely disappointing. The only thing worth eating from that meal was the fresh OJ, bread, and cheese, and the cheese was mediocre. Even if the produce was ripe and things were properly cooked I wouldn't have paid more than 7 for what was presented to me had I known that's what it would be.

When asked if we were done and was giving my feedback our server quickly took plates away and passed the dissatisfaction to manager before we could tell him we needed a box for my daughter's pancake. Manager came to speak with me and responded with this is the description on the menu. And sure, but quality was trash and very little food in comparison to the other dishes at my table and around.

They did discount the meal slightly. But I would urge everyone to stay away from the essentials plate and for the restaurant to consider omitting or really working on the quality/price for...
