I recently had the pleasure of dining at A Obra, a delightful restaurant located on a charming street in the heart of Lisbon. As soon as I arrived, I couldn't help but be captivated by the sheer beauty of the surroundings. The street itself was adorned with an abundance of lush plants, creating a vibrant and inviting atmosphere. It truly felt like a hidden oasis tucked away in the bustling city.
One of the highlights of my visit was encountering the lovely and amiable waitress, Laura. Her warm and friendly demeanor instantly made me feel welcome. She provided exceptional service throughout my dining experience, going above and beyond to ensure that everything was perfect. Laura's presence alone made me want to return to A Obra in the future.
Now, let's talk about the food. The culinary offerings at A Obra were nothing short of outstanding. Every dish I sampled was a testament to the chef's skill and dedication to using fresh ingredients. The shrimp sandwich I ordered was a revelation. The shrimp were succulent and perfectly cooked, sandwiched between a delightful combination of flavors and textures. It was a heavenly delight that left me craving for more.
What impressed me even further was Laura's expertise in recommending wines to pair with the food. She introduced me to a selection of nature wines, and I was blown away by the difference in taste. Each sip revealed a distinct character and a unique connection to the earth.
Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend A Obra to anyone visiting Lisbon. The restaurant's enchanting location, coupled with the outstanding food and the charming presence of Laura, make it an experience worth savoring. Whether you're a local or a traveler, A Obra promises a delightful journey for your taste buds. I can't wait to return to this hidden gem myself in the...
Read moreWe ordered octopus rice and gnocchi for lunch, and the portion of gnocchi was ridiculously small. It would have been fine as touristy restaurants do such a thing, but the waiter asked about the food, and we politely mentioned that the food was ok in taste, but the portions were really small. Instead of accepting that their portions are actually very small, he said it's a Portuguese culture to share food when you order it, and that's why one portion is regular while the other is small. First, you are running a restaurant, not an anthropology department. Serve the food the way it's supposed to be served rather than interpreting cultures (he was not a Portuguese, which makes it more disgusting), you get a full price for both meals. None of my Portuguese friends ever mentioned that in restaurants, they serve you small portions, charge you full, and expect you to share and have no other way about it. Second, even the food itself wasn't good. I guess he forgot Portuguese food is general in delicious, and the restaurant doesn't know how to make it. It was the most pretentious, shit and rude place I have been to in Portugal. Every other place I have been was just great. Kind people with great service. Maybe foreigners should run local food places and worse lecture customers on...
Read moreEasily one of the great restaurants in Lisbon. To begin with, this is a cash only (or possibly PayPal option) restaurants. Which would be a disadvantage to travellers from non-euro using countries who may not want to have extra cash on their way out of Portugal. That said, the food was absolutely amazing. I took the option of octopus rice (which was more like a risotto in my opinion, but I've come to realise this is the definition of rice in Portugal from other restaurant visits, someone correct me if I'm wrong 😅). The meal was flavourful to perfection. I also had the juice of the season which seemed to me to be more of a smoothie than juice, but delicious nonetheless. The service was also impeccable with the service stuff helping me to pick the location for an user pickup as I had to get to Lisbon orient. The interior looked great from the little I saw. But I opted to sit outside as I had made no prior reservation and had my luggage with me. It was a great view though overlooking the picturesque Green street. Would definitely recommend giving this place a visit once if you're ever in Lisbon. If I do return to Lisbon, I'm definitely returning to try more of the food on their menu at a relaxed pace, as I was in a...
