I've never been more uncomfortable eating in a restaurant. I wanted to leave right after the person/server/owner? pulled the menu out of my hand and walked away before I could finish ordering, but I freeze up in some situations that make me uncomfortable and my group was looking to eat since we hadn't eaten a meal for lunch yet (we had eaten a bit of food right around noon) and it was almost/around 14:00. My group included three older individuals (70s and 80s in age), and we typically can't eat full individual portions anyway. The owner expressed displeasure/anger that we had ordered "only" two whole chicken platters and a mixed salad (for me); he stopped taking my order when I was beginning to order drinks. He communicated to me that the amount of food ordered was too little and I sought to explain that we weren't very hungry and could not eat much (especially me at the time) but that's when he walked away and told the woman/his relative? that we ordered only the two whole chickens and salad. He ended up coming back and asking me what drinks we wanted to order. I ate as quickly as I could and stayed fairly silent. I see from the other reviews that my group essentially ordered and paid similar/comparable amounts per person to the orders of other customers (who seemed to have had positive experiences). I also see from other reviews that my group and I are not the only ones who have experienced the expressed emotions of the person/server. That is a pity. I wish this establishment continued success since it seems some patrons do enjoy themselves, the food, and the people at the restaurant, and I don't wish harm on people trying to earn a decent living. What a day it has...
Read moreI walked in and the owner had an incredibly pissed off look on his face when he saw me and his wife only stared. I think they realized they were technically open and I absolutely shadow both of them physically since they're close to being 5 feet tall each so I stared them down as well. The owner relented once he got the treatment back, 😂 tossed a menu in front of me in Portuguese, pointed out what the meat was for each of them, and I chose.
There was no greeting or anything. No customer service and, granted, I'm not looking to be welcomed with a hug or something but this guy did better appearing as hostile as possible than they did cooking their food which I found more tasteless than anything.
Don't bother coming here unless you want the authentic tourist experience with Portuguese restaurants and retail locations I heard so much...
Read moreCame here after a morning around the Belem Tower. It is one of the closest not so touristy restaurants near the tower. It is not far from the foot bridge.
They only serve a few dishes there, I don’t think it is very vegetarian friendly. They serve pork, veal, chicken and fish dishes. They all come with rice or salad or potatoes. They all are more or less €10 each dishes. The portions are general.
The food came very quickly and we were not disappointed. I ordered the house red and it tasted very rich and nice to drink in this area.
I can see why some comments saying that the owner is rude. I don’t think he is rude, but he indeed didn’t smile much. He was helpful. Don’t take it personally.
We ordered 4 mains, one house red, one fizzy water, two cokes. The bill was €48.5. It was...
