It's midday in Lisbon and on our last day in Portugal. We've just covered the Jeronimos to Belem stretch with the monument to the discoveries and the soldiers etc done and are about to head back to jeronimos to try pastel de nata in its birthplace when it hits us 1. We've been in portugal 6 days and not had sardines yet 😳 I mean seriously the entire exhibit of the monument to the discoveries which we saw on this day was more about sardines than discoveries and we've not had them yet 2. We figured our palate could use a savory primer to eating the OG pastel de nata in Pasteis de belem So of course I ask ChatGPT for sardines places very nearby so we can logically walk to this place and then to Pasteis de belem and it recommends this no frills, no fuss, just sardines place And that's what it was , just some good old Portugese sardines served with a boiled potato and some salad (which if you take a bite with the sardines takes off some of the saltiness of the fish itself). I must say it did feel like we were getting the quintessential sardines experience, they tasted quite good and very wholesome with the expectation we had in our mind about the dish. I paired mine with a white Port wine and the combination was great.

OH MY GOD! This place is simple, honest, gorgeous delicious food, and a must come back for me! The meal was so simple: grilled Robalo, boiled potatoes and salad on the side. I wasn’t expecting anything for it when I saw it, but honestly, the best food I had in Portugal so far! WAAAY better than the more famous “Bacalhau this and that” restaurants you find elsewhere. This is real honest family delicious food. Even the boiled potatoes and simple salad were demolished cause it simply tasted too good. Prices are very decent and staff is super friendly! I Loved it!

Great little local place, reasonable prices, mom and pop Resto with focus on grilled foods. We got there at 2pm, we were still on easern time and weren't hungry until then, and found they ran put of certain fishs and specials. It would have been better likely around noon local time. One served who hustled but the poor guy was overloaded as a one man front store. Seating, bussing, orders take out. Some customers came, but aftera few mins left. I am sure it would have better around noon instead of near the end of the end lunch rush.

We dropped by this place after seeing the covered up tower of Belem, which was just across the bridge. It seemed pretty nice and the prices were a little expensive but not too bad. The waiters were friendly, but they definitely preferred speaking French over English, but that was no big deal. We ordered and then found out that they were out of two of the things that we had ordered. that was a little annoying, but in the end we all got our food and it was good. Three of us got fish and one of us got an interesting sausage dish wrapped in ham. One of the fish dishes was a bit oversalted. The rest was good. The bread they give you at the beginning is...
