Confeitaria Nacional Belém Conveniently located in between Belem Towers and Monument to the Discoveries. Can get very good views of both locations while enjoying a hot cup of coffee. But beware, food can make you sick. The staff is very rude. Find some other option if you can. It was such a hassle to order our food and the waitress was so annoying initially, maybe because they instantly know if you are a tourist. She was not ready to take our order when we are pointing and saying what we want but wanted us to memorize the names and order later from the table but not at the counter when we pay. Makes no sense. Once we got our food and sat down on a table with a sun shade umbrella, she immediately had to come and close the umbrella down in the scotching heat. All other umbrellas were up, but she had to close only ours down. Made no sense. In spite of me sternly saying that we just sat down and can it stay up until we finish our meal since we had already started eating, she would not listen and continued to close the shade and made us move to a side location, next to the toilets, filled with birds and bird poop and had to squeeze ourselves in to even get to that table. We quickly finished our half eaten meal and got out of there and I fell sick that night because of the mozzarella sandwich I ate there. Why do you all treat tourists so badly? You want people to visit, buy your hopeless food and want their money but treat them...
Read moreOne of the most horrible situation I've ever experienced in my life. I've asked to one of guys id they had "pastel de belém", since we were right next to the tower. That guy said I had to get in line and pointed me to the pastries. When it was our turn, I asked him: "is 'pastel de nata' the same as 'pastel de belém'?", because I had only seen 'pastel de nata' on the menu. He replied "I will punch you. I have already explained it to you." I was perplexed. He then went and told us that Pastel de Belém is the one and only on the "Pastelaria de Belém", which is on another place. When I was leaving with my fianceé and didn't want to buy anything there, he then shouted to us "you escaped from a beating". I promise that I will never ever get anywhere near to this place and I hope that none of my friends and family will ever go there. If they have employees like this, I can't but wonder what the owners are like. I would give zero stars,...
Read moreGood setting, on the water with good view of Belém. My mouth started watering as soon as I walked in. The various baked, fried and other confections looked so delicious. I had difficulty not choosing one of everything! It was crowded around midday but I could still find a decent seat. Service was a little slow but decent seeing as they were so busy. The pasta de nata was still warm and excellent. The best I have had. The sangria was also good and had even a piece of cinnamon in it along with the fruit. I could get fat here! But what a way to go! The cheesecake looked so good but I resisted. The savoury snacks that I took to go (fish cakes and also a beef variant) made for a filling snack...
