First of all – fantastic pizza and a lovely location. But unfortunately, the service was terrible. We waited almost an hour after being seated before anyone took our order – despite making eye contact with multiple waitresses and even asking them directly several times. No one seemed to feel responsible for our table.
When we finally managed to place our order, some of the drinks and even one of the pizzas never made it to the table, but still appeared on the bill. We were also told that pasta wasn’t available, even though it makes up about half the menu.
What was most frustrating, though, was the staff’s attitude. It felt like they genuinely didn’t care. With a constant line of people waiting to be seated, there seems to be little motivation to provide decent service – if one group leaves, the next one is already at the door.
This stands in contrast to other restaurants in Lisbon, where service is delivered with love, kindness, and charm. There are definitely better options.
That being said: the food itself...
Read moreHonestly, La Matta blessed me with probably one of the best Pizza's I've ever had and will ever enjoy in my life. We were 5 on the table, and decided to try out a few from the menu. All were really outstanding, but two I really want to highlight: first, Pizza Amalfi. The lemon on the pizza gave the sweetness and freshness, the anchovies the saltiness, and the burrata the creaminess. Absolutely sensational. Second, Pizza Incaprettata, with goat cheese. An absolute firework in my mouth. I can't describe it. The main reason, in my opinion, is the amazing dough, which is thin but tasty. I couldn't get my head around the special ingredient they use, but there must be something. Absolutely amazing! We waited for 40 minutes and had a drink next doors to wait for the table, but once we were at the table, the food didn't take too long. The people are super friendly and it's simply a cute place. Sensational. Again. Also as a side note: they have amazing drinks!!! Bicicletas, Aperols, and most importantly: AN AMAZING...
Read moreThe dough is the most important part of pizza. Here it is made from scratch and, according to their menu, is properly rested to allow the natural yeast leveling, and eliminating the need for quick rising and many believe this process creates a more nutritious bread.
Indeed, the dough was quite good and after eating a lot of this pizza I did not experience the heavy feeling in my belly that often comes from eating cheaper pizza.
We tried two of the pies. Both were good, but didn't wow us. Although, to their credit, we were there during a very busy Sunday dinner rush.
Also, the oven roasted veggies appetizer looked excellent.
Between the two of us we weren't sure if we should order two pies or one pie and an appetizer. We went with two pies, and it was more food than we could eat. In retrospect, we should have ordered the roasted veggies and a single pizza
Overall it was great, and I greatly appreciate the efforts they put into creating and serving healthy dough....
