Lucca — Restaurant in Lisbon

Back in the 2000s, this eatery stood out as a top-tier Italian dining spot in Lisbon, known for its inviting ambiance and a homemade menu that boasted exceptional quality. However, upon my recent visit, I found that the standards had sadly slipped, leaving me thoroughly let down by the culinary experience. As Lisbon has evolved, so too has my palate, particularly regarding Italian fare. Take their Carbonara, for instance — a classic dish that traditionally hinges on just four key ingredients. Yet, what I was served strayed far from authenticity, featuring a type of cheese that was neither Pecorino nor Parmesan, an unwarranted addition of cream, bacon in place of the essential guanciale, and a conspicuous absence of eggs. If the recipe has changed, perhaps the name should as well to reflect what's truly being offered...

I arrived a few minutes before its closure at 15h30. I was told I couldn't have lunch anymore due to the fact the kitchen was now closed. All is good, acknowledged, and I left. It was raining so I was waiting outside for it to stop. Couple minutes later a couple arrives and I noticed they get a seat and start ordering. I stand in aw, since the kitchen was closed how come they get to order? I get in to understand the situation and apparently they had a reservation. All good, so after all the kitchen was in fact open and I was lied to. I get the option to get a seat at this point (but no thank you, should have offered one at the beginning). I don't remember ever being lied to my face in a Portuguese restaurant. Awful service by the employee which led to one...

We came by this charming and effective establishment right after a late night rock concert. Seeing its neon lighted logo we were expecting some shabby and risky night-open-eatery. Boy were we wrong. The staff was helpful, service minded, teamworking and enjoyable. I had the vegetarian pizza "Inferno", and I must say: it might be the best pizzas I've ever had. Like Lisbon it was full of contrasts: Mild around the cheese and dough, but colorful and spicy when the onions and chili kicked in. Perfectly balanced, but never boring. I am coming...
