I travel the world and enjoy experiencing different barbers. Before visiting one,
1 - I make sure they have good ratings, 2 - and I check if they’ve already worked with someone who has a big beard.
So my expectation is quite high.
I paid 40€ for the combo hair + beard
Whilst the cut itself is not that bad, it is definitely not worth €40, and I will explain why.
Nothing to say about the haircut—it’s well done. However, I left there looking like I had just rolled out of bed, which is not the image I expect after visiting a barber.
Let's get into the beard:
When I go to a barber, I essentially ask for three things:
1 - Respect the current shape of my beard.
2 - Don’t leave my mustache too high or thick—I prefer a finer look and don’t like a big, bushy mustache.
3 - Don’t use a razor on my neck because I have sensitive skin. At this barbershop, they only got one thing right: not using a razor on my neck.
When I arrived, they offered me coffee. Then, they put some kind of mask over my eyes, and at the end of the beard trim, they applied a cream. I thought it was beard oil, but instead, they started giving me a massage.
I believe that before adding extra services, they should focus on the main details, like trimming the beard properly.
Everything seemed fine when I left, but once I got home and took a closer look, I noticed the issues.
1- My beard lines were uneven and irregular.
2 - The sideburns were two different widths, even though I hadn’t asked for any changes. In fact, it bothers me when they make them thinner because the regrowth becomes noticeable too quickly. Additionally, they removed the natural curve between the sideburns and the beard, turning it into a squared-off angle. The barber even asked if I wanted to keep the same shape, and I confirmed that I did.
3 - On top of that, my mustache was left thick, which bothers me when eating.
If you’re going to charge €40 for a beard and hair trim—a premium price—you need to offer a premium service.
And a premium service doesn’t mean offering coffee, putting something over my eyes, or giving an unsolicited massage.
Two recommendations:
1 - Lower the price—there’s no way it’s worth €40.
2 - If you only have experience with short beards or just shaving, and a client with a big beard comes in, send them elsewhere.
If you mess up a big beard, there’s no fixing it—you can’t put the hair back. The client will have to wait two months for decent regrowth and find another barber.
Still giving 2 stars and not 1 because the haircut was done well, and the overall body of the beard (apart from the other...
Read moreI discovered Baioque pretty much by accident, which is the best way to discover hidden treasures. Intrigued by the concept of a barbershop and coffee, I stepped in and asked them if I could have only a coffee. Anna, smiling warmly, said ‘yes of course’.
I had a delicious French Press and got to talking to Fabio, who showed me around the place and told me about his story and how his wife and he moved from Brazil to Portugal and the idea for the name ‘Baioque’ and their vision for the place.
Since I am from India, we found a lot of common threads in our culture - Brazil and India share a special connection, spoke about Yoga, MMA, festivals and our lives in our home cities. It was just the best start to my day.
I wish Fabio and his team the very best, and highly recommend Baioque to someone who wants great coffee, a great haircut or both, and great conversation. It is a place of just the most...
Read moreGreat place for a haircut. Tatiana, one of the professionals, got spot on the cut I wanted, which hasn't happened in other places.
The beard trimming, with hot and cold towels, is my treat of the day, when I go there.
Last, but not least, the place has a terrific coffee — as well as pao-de-queijo (Brazilian cheese bread) and delicious (not too sugary) cakes — that naver fail to make me arrive a bit earlier, so I...
