This is a typical "traditional" Portuguese food restaurant, where locals eat and go often with family and friends!!!
I have been their Client for more than 30 years... I celebrated many good moments with family, friends, for my "fairwells" and "welcome back" dinners, as I lived and worked all over the world from my mid 20's until the pandemic (needless to say to anyone who knows how to do simple sums, that I am in my mid 50's now!!!).
Father and son have ran the restaurant for over 30 years, and the cook is still the same lady, now also much older, like me!
They have amazing food, from "arroz de ligueirão" to "peixe no sal", as main dishes for fish "aficionados"!
For meat lovers, their "costeletão de Barrancos" grilled on your table on a hot stone, is to die for!
I highly reccomend also their great house wine, red or white, from Douro region!
I missed mentioning the starters: "Peixinhos da horta", mushrooms stuffed with savoury bacon, or the typical "butter melting" cheese from "Serra da Estrela"! Any of these are just going to prepare your taste buds for what is to come next!
Please understand this is an "unassuming" very traditional family owned restaurant, so quite simply put together, in terms of its decor, however it is clean, very comfortable winter or summer (with Heater or A/C).
Once the starters will be laid on your table, you will be be won as a Client for the coming 30 years... like me!
Not to be missed..!
To all curious "foodies" who may wish to see what is like "one of the most genuine gastronomic experiences" in Portugal! I.e. clearly not with a kitchen led by any of the "trendy young chefs"... instead, you will experience the QUALITY of our country's Gastronomy, prepared by a "real" old lady "cook", whom i believe, belongs to the large pool of "unsong gastronomic heroes" that have carried our genuine Portuguese rich gastronomy,...
Read moreWe wanted to get lost in the city and we did. We wanted to eat with the locals and we did. We wanted to sumerge ourselves in the culture and we did. We walked in after a hot day walking and as we came in there was a big table of older gentleman. The place feels dark at first when you come in from a sunny day, but it is perfect! We didn’t really know what we wanted to eat, and we think the father felt us lost and so he came to our table and told us what was on the menu in words we could understand. I knew I hadn’t ordered but somehow we had food on our table and it was what we didn’t know we wanted, what we didn’t know we needed. I would come back here over and over again. If I live here, I would love to be a regular and be friends with the father and...
Read moreAmazing food, very reasonably priced and incredibly underrated! Quiet restaurant in Alcantara with quality, traditional Portuguese food. The menu changes depending on what is fresh or in season, you can be sure to trust the recommendations of the staff. A family business that has been running for 40 or so years I’d say. Don’t be fooled by the exterior, have a go! Hidden treasure. I’ve been 3 times and coming back for...
