O bitoque — Restaurant in Lisbon

Campo de Ourique is a beautifil area in Lisbon, full of restaurants and bars designed especially for tourists. This O Bitoque sounds and looks exactly as a true and authentic portoguese restaurant. A bit old fashioned but also accurate in the decorations with the typical Azulejos on the wall. I loved the possibility to have dinner at the bar, straight in front of the waitresses, like some old American diners. The kitchen is great, in particular the traditional Bitoque: meat (pork or beef) with the egg above with sides of rice, fries and vegetables. A neighborhood gem. Small family run restaurant opens on Sunday! (Many place close on Sunday) and they accept card payment. The son speaks good English abut entire family is very friendly with the Portuguese ease of life type of vibe. Sitting at the counter can see how busy they are, many take away orders from locals. Made to order dish hence I waited a bit longer than the “hungry after gym” self care would like to, but hey the sea bream portion is sooo big only 10EUR you can come with a friend and share some dishes together. Family owned place with local guests as well as the occasional tourist. Good for a quick lunch as well as a calm sit down with wine.

Well made, authentic and tasty portugese food. I tried the bitoque and it delivered, the meat was cooked perfectly and the soup of the day was so good I could have that twice.
