I was directed to this area by my hotel, the day before I begin my Camino de Santiago journey. This was the receptionist’s second choice (the first was closed on a Sunday evening). Imagine my shock when the bill arrived (€58) and though not the fanciest nor most delicious meal I've had in my three days in Porto, by FAR the most expensive.
If you look at the bill, it's questionable why VAT ranges from 13% to 23%. I live in the UAE and if I'm complaining about prices - there's something wrong. Also, as an American I always tip regardless but I couldn't do so in these circumstances. I don't believe in rewarding bad behavior which I feel is this restaurant simply trying to take advantage of tourists.
I ordered the scallops as an app. Two scallops arrived. The fish of the day was the sea bass. Now you'd think given those is a fish area that it would run cheaper. I had a small portion as I was only one person and asked for a salad (lettuce, olives, tomatoes, onions and carrot). I had port white. Never ate the bread that was brought out (which seriously was simply bread bought in a grocery store as a loaf for picnic sandwiches and toasted). For dessert I had the egg custard which was definitely NOT fresh.
I embark on my journey tomorrow (Monday, Feb 19) to Santiago and this place has left such a bad taste in my mouth.
When you and your staff only look at short-term gains, you suffer in the long-term. To all foreigners:...
Read moreTerrible experience. The front desk at our hotel recommended this restaurant and made us a reservation here for 8:45pm, which is when we arrived. After being seated a few minutes later, we started choosing our menu selections and wines and were excited to order. Unfortunately no one ever came to take our order, not even for drinks. We were dropped off a basket of bread in passing without being addressed verbally by any staff after being seated. After 30 minutes, of looking around with our menus closed, making sure to make eye contact and obviously ready to order, we noticed a table that arrived well after us was getting waited on and had their drinks. We were sitting in the middle of the restaurant for 30 minutes being completely ignored, watching everyone else get checked on and enjoying their meals. Literally no one ever came to take our order and walked by us multiple times, multiple staff. We counted up enough euros for the bread that had been dropped off and left it on the table, and walked out. No one said anything to us still nor did anyone try to contact the hotel they knew we were staying at to apologize. We had the feeling that perhaps we weren't the typical demographic they serve- hopefully that was not actually a contributing factor to this awful and demeaning experience, but it did feel that way. The food looked great and it's a shame we didn't get to try it. We spent our money elsewhere...
Read more€800. for three. DO NOT let the waiter pick the fish for you! We came in, my dinner mates wanted "good fresh seafood"... waiter said "we'll take care of you". he started picking things. we ordered a bubbly and he was giving us choices of €65 vs €45... a HUGE tower came of fish and shellfishes... all very very delicious but tons of leftovers. Likely enough for five people! we were presented with the bill and was €800!!! menu mixed grilled fish / seafood for each individual was €120. We did not want to dispute and make a scene as we realized our initial mistake by giving the waiter a blank Chek and not asking for the price! we found it odd that he emphasized on the prices of the bubbly and kep mum about his pickings of seafood! We felt that he should have volunteered the ballpark of the prices but nothing was said. Service and all were great... but this dinner left a really bitter taste in our mouth and burning in the wallet! call us stuuupid!
"we'll take care of you" he said.
