There are MANY Grilled Fish & Seafood Restaurants in Matosinhos. ( one-day- I’ll have tried them ALL, but we’ve only lived here 4.5 months!)
I love a good Portuguese Seafood Stew. Their chef of 22 years makes a fantastic “Caldeirada”-served in metal “Cauldron”, that’s delivered to the Table and served hot out of the Oven. I ordered a-“1/2 dose” that included several types of fish + a bit of StringRay as well.( sadly-no clams , mussels or shrimp) The rich, savory-golden-broth, was a perfect compliment to enrobe perfectly-cooked fish + potatoes ( a few too many to my taste/it distracts from the Fresh-Fish)
My dining companions thoroughly enjoyed their Salmon, nicely seasoned and beautifully-“plated” including small yellow potatoes & sautéed Cabbage & carrots with onions.
Both times I went with visitors from America; and the service was exceptionally warm and attentive. My friends appreciated the fact our sever(s) could communicate with them in English, as well-Obrigado!
They noted the way in which the (Cabo Verde) waiter, so artfully de-skinned my friends Salmon which so impressed them, they talked about it on the way home.
Casa Serrão, may be “ONE”, of many in this section of Matosinhos, yet, I can guarantee- you will not go wrong here!
Viva-Casa Serrão! ...
Read moreI visited this little spot for a sunny Sunday lunch with my mom. Some Koreans left bad reviews about the service, but I really don't get it. From the moment we put our names on the waiting list, the female server took care of us with a constant smile. I'm so grateful for her! :) (She even said goodbye to me by my Korean name when we were leaving.)
Based on the reviews, I thought the service would be slow, but considering how busy it was, the food came out pretty quickly and the service was great. The cuttlefish, sardines, and grilled cod we had here are something I won't forget. The grilled fish was absolutely amazing!!! The umami flavor of the sardines was something I haven't experienced much in my country and I think I'll miss it. I regret not being able to try the other fish dishes. The male server, who seemed to be the owner, always checked on our table and even gave us two rum shots on the house at the end. I enjoyed mine, but my mom couldn't drink alcohol so she couldn’t have hers. :/ I definitely want to come back with my...
Read moreThis restaurant is located at the beginning of the street Heróis de França which is the street of matosinhos where you can find tenth of restaurant specialized in fresh fish. The speciality on this street is grilled fish and this restaurant is not an exception. We ordered petingas (small sardines) for starter and chocos na brasa (Grilled squid). They proposed the squid with ink, which is not very common and we like it, so we ordered it. The reason why this is not common is that it's difficult to clean the squid with breaking the pocket of ink. They solved this problem by not cleaning the squid ! No need to say that we were not expecting this and that this doesn't improve the taste of the dish. I understand that we asked for the ink, but we surely didn't ask for the rest of the entrails. At least a warning would have been appreciated. The squid was otherwise we'll cooked. The service was good, not too long and friendly. The price was reasonable. Maybe another main dish would have given a much better impression and it was just an...
