As an Engineer it was amazing to be able to access this old Crane on our cruise visit to Leixoes. The old crane has been restored very well. It was a real surprise for us to be allowed to visit it free of charge? It has a great views of the beach, and especially the port area. If you are on a cruise here, do not take the shuttle bus to the port gates, walk it. Then you can add this trip up the old crane to your day, as I am sure you will not be disappointed. Highly recommended.

Come to visit this feat of 19th century engineering. It's open Friday to Sunday. You get a view of the port on one side, the cruise terminal ahead and the beach on the other side. There are posters with info about how everything worked and how it was used in local industry. This is a result of the investment into the local area. Follow here and on IG for more travel and food and drink tips, ideas and reviews @one.more.step.along.the.world

Fantastic old steam crane that you can go inside and even walk along the boom. The old boilers and pistons etc are there to see, and going into the operator's control box was a highlight. Even if you are not into vintage engineering then the views out over the beach alone make it worthwhile. It was hard to find info on opening times, but it seemed to open around 11am on the Friday that I was there. There was no charge and not even an opportunity to...
