Literally at the end of the road is a seafood restaurant that is often overlooked because they don't have fancy signage like the other ones on the waterfront strip.
This place is a seaside facing restaurant, literally right on the water. It may be associated with the mirena, and I imagine that this place is quite popular for lunch and dinner for boaters.
Prices are incredibly reasonable for the amount and quality of food. We ordered the monkfish skewers and the tuna belly, as well as the razor clam appetizer. What really stood out was how fresh everything was, and how incredibly well cooked and well-seasoned everything was. You taste the decades of history of the grill in the kitchen, because the flavors of the food can only be accomplished by a skilled grillmaster working a grill that has decades of flavor burned into it.
The monkfish for its prices incredible value. The fish is incredibly meaty and satisfying, and comes with two large grilled prawns that is prepared so incredibly well that the shell can be eaten along with a meat. The tuna portion was generous and even though the slices were cooked through, the meat was tender and flaky and moist.
Do not miss the razor clams. It comes with an incredible sauce made out of local butter with just a tinge of citrus. You can taste the true flavor of the razor clam as the sauce doesn't overwhelm the dish but accompanies it.
I know it seems silly to note but the fries are unreal. They look uninteresting and soggy but every single fry is crispy and flavorful and it makes no sense, but it is some of the best fries you will have.
The entire dinner with two glasses of local wine costs 50 euros, and that's including tax and tip. You cannot find value like this anywhere in North America, especially considering that we sat at a table that is literally beside the water's edge. Fyi, each class of wine is 2 euros. That is insane.
Do not be intimidated by the walk to the edge of town. Walk through this non-descript entrance that looks like you're about to head to a dock and you will be treated to an incredible environment serving some of the best seafood you will have in your life. This place served what I consider to be the best slice of monkfish I have...
Read moreHad dinner here last month with a group of six. They placed us inside near the kitchen area as we were the only people in that room. They were also playing over the speakers cheesy 80s music (covers?) that would be on loop while were there. We showed up after what looked like a large group of people had arrived in the room nearby. This probably explained why it took around 15 minutes before they took our order. For our entire group they provided a small bowl of sliced bread and a small dish with sliced carrots and olives which we did not order. The menu showed the bread and carrots was €1.50 and the olives was €0.50. The snacks were devoured as we waited another 45 minutes for our orders to show up. During this time we were never checked on by staff and the bread/carrots/olives were never resupplied. The members of the group seemed to like their entree dishes quite a bit. When we received our bill, however, it showed that each of us were charged €2 for the bread/carrots/olives even though we had only one serving for the six of us. The €12 charge for a small bowl of bread and a small plate of carrots and olives felt like a deceptive practice. As we had earlier a long day of traveling and spent a considerable amount of time waiting for the food to arrive, all of us were too exhausted to raise the issue, but it did leave a negative impression of the restaurant with us at the end...
Read moreWe were recommended by friends who had eaten here previously. The place is difficult to find as it’s well disguised as a working marina. A sunny October day, we sat outside overlooking the moored boats in the marina. Apart from the outdoor terrace, there’s a room which could accommodate about 60 people and another cavernous room which was even bigger. This larger room quickly filled up with a tour group. My companion wasn’t hungry (poor fool) so I placed my order for sea bass, which came with a delicious salad and some new potatoes. I was expecting a considerable wait considering the large influx of people but my food was delivered in 20 minutes. Absolutely fabulous!! Highly recommended, just make the...
