We needed to be in Olhão, and considering all the terrific seafood restaurants, we thought it was about time for a splurge meal. We selected Restaurante Prazeres, from reviews plus having scallops on the menu. We hadn’t had scallops in a restaurant for years. We ordered scallops and mussels as starters and a main of lobster rice as the splurge dish. Al three dishes were exceptional. I have had lobster rice twice before since retiring in the Algarve. Both times the rice was gummy and the lobster cooked to death. Nonetheless, we took the risk. This version of the dish was everything it could be. The tail meat was chopped and the rest of the lobster was intact. The rice was perfect and flavourful, loaded with large shrimp. It was pricey, but if that is okay with you, you can order here with confidence that you will get value for your splurge.

I went in Portugal for the seafood and here I found the quality I was looking for. Excellent! Seafood is so fresh and perfectly prepared. Clams so gorgeous i could still taste the sea in it. We had quite a lot of fun enjoying the crab (ask for the tools). The tuna steak was tick and perfectly cooked - so tasty. I tried the Xarém for the first time and I was not disappointed. They have a wine menu but we asked for a bottle of their wine of the house which comes in a proper bottle with Cork and it's simply great. Advise: they only have fresh food from the local market so they run out of options quickly. Book in advance and try to pre-order. Tables and chairs outdoor are of cheap plastic but who cares when the food is so good. I'll be back to try the rest of the menu.

Prazeres in Olhão offered an average dining experience. The food was decent, but there was nothing to write home about, and unfortunately, the service was quite sluggish. What really made it feel average was the pricing; it seemed quite high given the quality of the ingredients and preparation. Adding to the disappointment, some of the port wines listed on the menu were not available, which was quite unexpected for a restaurant in Portugal. Having dined at other restaurants in the area, we found they offered much better service and extraordinary quality of food for comparable prices. While it's an Olhão staple, we felt the value for money wasn't quite there on this visit.

Wow. WOW. Just... WOW. If you are anywhere near this place and consider yourself a fan of seafood, you absolutely have to stop what you're doing and go here immediately. Don't be fooled by the casual, unpretentious vibe – this is where culinary magic happens! From the moment we sat down, we knew we were in for a treat, but nothing could have prepared us for the incredible feast that followed. The food here is simply DIVINE. We started with the octopus, and I'm not exaggerating when I say it was perhaps the most exquisite octopus I have ever tasted. Perfectly cooked, tender, and bursting with flavour – a true masterpiece. Then came the mixed seafood platters... INCREDIBLE doesn't even begin to cover it. A magnificent array of fresh, perfectly prepared seafood that had us utterly spellbound. Every single bite was a revelation. The freshness, the simple yet perfect preparation, the sheer quality of the ingredients – it was all just phenomenal. While the setting is relaxed and "alla buona," the food and the service are anything but basic. The service was attentive, friendly, and genuinely added to the wonderful experience. They are clearly passionate about their food, and it shows. This is not a fancy, white-tablecloth kind of place, and thank goodness for that! It's authentic, it's real, and it delivers flavour experiences that many high-end restaurants can only dream of. If you want truly incredible, fresh, unforgettable seafood served with genuine warmth, look no further. This place is a hidden gem and an absolute triumph. We are already planning our next visit! Five stars simply aren't enough! Price...

We had high hopes for this restaurant in Olhão, especially given its reputation for fresh seafood, but unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired.

Although the food quality itself was good, the overall experience was overshadowed by poor service and an incredibly long wait time. We waited over two hours from the moment we sat down until we received our food — with no advance warning about the delay. Had we known, we would have gone elsewhere, particularly since I’m currently pregnant and long waits without food are simply not acceptable.

When we asked about the delay, the waiter mentioned we were “one of five tables still waiting,” as if that made the situation more acceptable. It didn’t.

To make matters worse, when the food finally did arrive, it was poorly coordinated. My husband received his main dish at the same time as our starters, while my main course came 10 minutes later, leaving us eating at different times. We also asked for bread, which was never brought to the table despite a reminder.

There were also issues with the food details. The chips served with the octopus were clearly frozen, not homemade. I had requested boiled potatoes with my fish, but it was served with chips instead — another mistake.

It’s a real shame, because the seafood itself was fresh and well-prepared. But the lack of organisation, poor communication, and overall disregard for the customer experience made the visit deeply frustrating.

Sadly, not a place we’d recommend — especially if you value good service or are on any kind...

Had a really nice dinner at Prazeres. They have a lot of options on their menu, both seafood and meat focused, although it would be helpful if the menu had a bit more descriptions under each item. Service is very friendly and attentive. Everyone gets a couvert of bread and carrots which I think is a few euro. The carrot salad is honestly really good here. I had the mixed platter of meat and seafood. For a one-person entree, it is pretty generous, and basically fills up the entire roof shingle (yes, a roof shingle) it is served in. That day, it consisted of a couple slabs of grilled chicken breast, a couple slabs of grilled pork, a small pile of clams, mussels, and shrimp, and a big pile of french fries. The seafood was good, although almost half of the mussels hadn't opened and thus weren't safe to eat. The grilled pork was really tasty and juicy, but the chicken was unfortunately a bit dry and tough. The fries were a nice accompaniment, although since they were in the same serving vessel as the rest of it, a lot of the fries got soaked by the meat juices and were immediately soggy. Overall, it wasn't perfect, but definitely a great value and I was full to bursting just...
