I’ve never been this critical of a restaurant but just had to be honest. Worse place I’ve eaten, ever.
The service was so bad that it was almost funny. The waitress looked like she hated her life, and her customers. When we asked what we wanted to drink we said a port. She protested that’s a liquor. So what? We ordered it anyway. Then when I asked for a beer, she showed the small card on the table with a few beers. I asked which one is lighter she didn’t understand what that means. She said she doesn’t know; she doesn’t drink beer. Imagine you’d go to a restaurant and ask for a recommendation and the server says “I don’t know, I don’t eat here.”
The food was not good. Really entertaining to see your chorizo burn over some gas, but it’s not accompanied with even a small leaf. Nothing.
The fish soup? Wow look at those nice chunks of white fish! Oh, no, it’s macaroni.
I think the grilled squid hadn’t been cleaned inside. It was gross and slimy, filled with grey sludge.
A mandatory extra €7,50 is added for the 8 small olives and the few dips and bread served at...
Read moreThis is very confusing: google reviews 4.4, but for us this was one of the worst food experiences we have had in Portugal, and it was not cheap. Let me break this down for you: entries consisting of stale bread (probably old) and a spoon cup of garlick spread 5EUR(wow). Then a sausage that was burnt in front of our eyes, maybe using a fire starter..6.60Eur (what?). Main dish beef..which one had to chew borderline uneatable if it was not salted (actually too much), sides three boiled potatoes and oily rice 10EUR).Fish soup was something else though: creamy potato based with pasta and some fish meat. It definitely was not a fish soup. I am still feeling unwell..my greesy Kebab for 5.50 earlier that day was more tasty. First for me that google reviews were so off. Cherry on top: when we wanted to pay, cash only..but there is a near ATM, we were told. Maybe this place used to have a good cook in the past? For us, it was a ruined evening and looking at the customers around us, might have been the...
Read moreMy wife and I had lunch today at Ginja’s in Peniche – and it was absolutely fantastic! It’s a rather small place with an even smaller kitchen and a short menu, but they play outstanding music and serve truly excellent food. The value for money is superb, which is quite rare in touristy areas.
Top quality, very fast and friendly service (just one waitress and two gentlemen behind the counter and at the stove), even though the place was completely full. We’ll definitely be coming back.
We had the fish soup and the octopus – both highly recommended. Just a little warning: after all that garlic, no vampire will dare to visit...
