Café Brasil Marisqueira — Restaurant in Portimão

Well I was here today and I thought that this place was really nice at first sight, then it started. The waiter insisted on speaking English even though im fluent in Portuguese and took 10 minutes to come to us, after he found out that we were only interested in drinks after our long walk he walked away and came back 15 minutes later, after he took our order of Coffees and softdrinks he went to the next table to talk to some local friends, the funny thing was that I could understand what he was saying and he was complaining about us not ordering food and how the foreigners are cheap "cabroes". Then after another 10 minutes he managed to bring us the simple order, after we had it all the waiters would walk past us and sort of ignore us and no one wanted to bring in the bill. After a while I lost my temper and wet in to pay, this took another 5 minutes even though the place was almost empty. The staff is very rude and arrogant and we noticed that one had a huge tattoo of a high rastaman on his leg so we assume that this establishment is not really to serious, even if the food is good wich may be possible I wouldent want to be served by such incompetent and rude staff as the bunch on imbecile clowns that Ive witnessed today. Service was not good, took 10 minutes after asking for the bill for the server to bring the bill out when it wasn’t busy.

Food was horrible. The clams were okay but way too expensive for the amount we got. The fish was horrendous and cold and tasted like they cooked a fish that died a week ago that was cooked yesterday. I don’t think I had a worst fish before in a restaurant.

Atmosphere was okay except the cover on the table already had stains and scraps on it. Not sure how this place is rated so high.

Also for any international visitors, they only accept Portuguese credit cards which they don’t mention until you ask for the bill. We had cash luckily but don’t expect your visa or Mastercard to work.

Felt one of the servers was racist since he smiled and took time to explain the dishes at other tables and aggressively moving our plates at the table before slamming down our dishes. Was also walking around checking other tables after we asked for the bill 10...

Tourists, beware,worst dining experience in Portugal!!!

If you’re not a local or don’t speak Portuguese, prepare to be ignored and disrespected. The older server blatantly favored Portuguese-speaking customers while treating us like we didn’t exist. He slammed plates, shoved my soup bowl while I was still eating, and never once checked in on us while going around attending to others. Felt borderline racist.

The food? A total scam. €25 for a sad, scattered plate of clams and a fish fillet so salty and fishy it tasted worse than the cheap frozen kind from the supermarket.

Regret coming here. We should’ve read the reviews others warned about his attitude toward foreigners and the food issue.
