We visited here last night after someone recommended it to us. At first we were pleased with our choice. The dining area is clean and offers an amazing view of the sea and the menu sounded really good. So, we ordered bread and butter, sardine pate and olives for 6 euros and then a mixed grill for 2 at 40 euros with a couple of fried eggs on the side. We then ordered a bottle of duoro red wine for 22.50 euros. All good. The first course came, the bread etc. Well this is when things began to go downhill. The bread was stale and inedible, the sardine pate was in a plastic container, not homemade as is the case everywhere else in Praia da Rocha. On the good side the olives were really good. Then our wine turned up, I tasted it and it was very good. More on that later. So the main course turned up, there was a promise of 6 different types of meat. To be fair it was a big portion of meat for two people and it comes with fries, rice and beans. I was looking forward to tucking in. When I did again I was so disappointed. The meat was tough as old boots and instead of 6 different meats it was more like pork and chicken done three ways with all three of them adding up to dry, tough, chewy meat that you wouldn't serve to your dog with a side of really chewy steak. On the plus side the beans and the fried egg were good. By this time we had given up any hope of having an enjoyable meal so I focused my attention on the bottle of very nice wine. I looked at the label and said to my husband - this wine is very nice but actually it is an altenlajo wine not a duoro one. Anyway we thought oh dear are we actually drinking a bottle of wine that's much more expensive than what we had ordered. So we called the waitress over and queried the price of the wine that, although we had enjoyed wasn't actually the one we ordered and we were worried re the price. As it turned out it was a slightly dearer price albeit only 3 euros more. To be fair they did waive the extra 3 euros. Then they asked if we wanted to take the food we had left away. No, we said, please take it away!!!! So, 75 euros later, we left very disappointed and would rate this as the worst meal we had in Praia da Rocha. Sorry but I would not recommend and certainly...
Read moreI placed a simple order: three chickens and a rack of ribs. Simple… at least in theory. The total for this order was €74 for the items described above, without requesting any type of side dish. Once the chickens were packed, we paid, and the counter employee informed the kitchen about the side dishes, as the kitchen staff themselves didn’t know that it included sides (only French fries).
In the end, when the order was fully ready, I gave my informal feedback to the employee, saying “it doesn’t make sense to order chicken and ribs without being told whether or not it comes with sides,” to which she replied that “she didn’t think it was fair that table service had the right to sides while takeaway didn’t,” claiming that the price was the same whether you took sides or not (€18.50 for a chicken without sides), and that this was a decision made by the boss that very day.
On top of all this, I am attaching some pictures below showing the quality of the service provided (burnt chicken and a tiny portion of fries) — for a bill, I repeat, of €74. Speechless. TERRIBLE on every level. 1 star...
Read moreMy mom and I were looking for a place to eat good meat in Portimão when I came across Mursa Restaurant. Initially, I was skeptical because it was located on a small street hidden from the main road. We were happy that we still entered this restaurant. The staff gave us a warm welcome; the restaurant wasn't busy when we arrived at 7:30 pm approx. We sat in a place with a beautiful view of the Praia da Rocha beach. We skipped the starters and went right away to the main course. My mother ordered a "Bitoque De Vaca," and I ordered a "Bife De Vazia Grelhado." To drink, I ordered a red wine, "Esporão Monte Velho," which was a suggestion from the staff, and my mom a soda. The food arrived fast and let me tell you, it was so delicious. The steak melted inside my mouth. The only thing that I didn't enjoy so much was the rice. The people there are mega-friendly, and they took such good care of us. I choose a cheesecake for dessert, and my mom a coffee ice cream. It was an overall surprising experience, and we will be back there when we get back to...
