This is a gem - and truly the best food experience we had in Portugal. Not fancy, but simple food amazingly prepared in an unpretentious, family style way. We had whelks in white bean soup, lamb stew, and shepherds pie. All were out of this world. On a scale of one to ten, our elementary schools age kids gave it “a billion.” The staff (owners?) were kind, attentive, and went out of their way to help us and make us feel welcomed and comfortable. Went there for lunch today, I had a lamb stew, very tender pieces of lamb, gigantic portion with rice. My wife had cabbage, potatoes and cooked pig meat, also tender and tasty. Very clean restaurant, I think we were the only non Portuguese. Go where the locals eat, can't go wrong. Had no room for dessert. The owner spoke very good English, he mad a couple of jokes. We enjoyed a delicious dinner here. The food was hearty and tasty and there are so many wonderful options to choose from. The staff was fantastic too. The young gentleman who helped us order (he spoke excellent English) was especially kind and helpful. We knew we were in a great place because it was very busy and it was filled will locals, all enjoying their respective meals. We won’t hesitate to return, it was a superb dining experience.
