La Gioconda — Restaurant in Portimão

Already from the start it was a bad experience. An almost empty restaurant and yet we were forced to eat at the two person table right at the door instead of any of the cozier placed 4-man tables.

The restaurant was messy. There was dust everywhere, the waiters was washing of the tables with a cloth around the things already on the table. That means if you moved anything it was dirty and sticky. The shelves we were seated next to was covered in dust. Thank God I'm not allergic or it would have ended up with a hospital visit.

It took quite a while for out food to be served. Meanwhile we could truly regret coming here in the first place.

They can't really decide in on a theme. They have a wall filled with wines, which gives it a cozyish feel in that corner, yet they have TVs on every wall with soccer on it. And speaker located around the restaurant with the game on way to loud. Also with only one other couple in the restaurant they had 1 chef and 8 waiters. The waiters didn't have much to do and was messing around with each other most of the time. Once the food finally came, we met the first decent experience. The food was neatly put on the plates, and that was about it. The food tasted fine, it was nothing out of the ordinary, but it was hard to enjoy with the soccer game blasting away on the speaker right above our table. It was a bit too pricy for the experience you get from going there.

I would absolutely not recommend going there ever, unless you really have no other choice, and then I would rather go to bed hungry... Which you might end up doing anyways. You are better off picking any other...

I don’t like to give negative reviews but now I’m a little bit too disappointed…. Based on other reviews the restaurant seems pretty good, but the actual experience sadly is not that good…. We ordered a pizza and a chicken with lemon sauce and vegetables. Taking in to consideration that this is an Italian restaurant the pizza was below average… The dough was weird and lacked of flavour. I can’t tell what style was it but certainly not Italian. The pizza sauce the same. The chicken with the lemon sauce, vegetables and rice was the same as the pizza, had no outstanding flavour, the vegetables I think was those frozen ones, without any condiments, the rice was the same. Excellent service, convenient location, with beyond amazing dishes. It's been quite challenging to find a flavorful restaurant here. But they seem to do Italian superbly, as this is our second Italian restaurant we've tried here. Both amazing! Mamado was our server and he took very good care of us. I had the lasagna which I highly recommend, along with the garlic cheese bread. I also purchased a bottle of prosecco which was amazing and reasonably priced. The risotto we shared as a table and it was some of the best I've had; anywhere. We also finished the experience with our first Irish Coffee; 2 thumbs up!!!
