My family and I made reservations in advance and showed up to be greeted by the host along with the friendly staff straight to our table. As we walked by the kitchen, everyone had smiles and made eye contact with our party. That is what I call service with a smile :) Shortly after being seated, our waiter (Sergio) came by our table and told us what the specialty dishes were for the evening...he even invited us to take a look at the meats that were cooked and taken out of the oven: roasted wild chicken, lamb, and veal. We started off with a salad, and cod fritters followed by the roasted chicken and veal along with the aromatic rice dishes from the meats and creamy spinach. Sergio also recommended a very nice bottle of wine and the Portuguese creme brulee dessert to compliment the meal. Overall, my family and I were extremely satisfied by the level of service provided by the restaurant staff along with the amazing dishes that were put onto the table! Will definitely be back on my next visit to Porto! Definitely worth the visit and the...

A somar a isto tudo temos o valor cobrado.

We wanted to try a non-tourist, traditional Portuguese restaurant and thought we would give A Cozinha do Manel a try. We arrived to a fully booked restaurant but was instead offered a seat at the bar, which we preferred anyway. Based on expert advise we had Codfish croquettes to start with followed by breaded octopus and rib beef with rice and spinach. The food was immaculate and tasted sensational, you can tell it was cooked with love. We chose the house wine which was delicious.

Finally we have to mention the service, John and his colleague were so lovely (didn't get the ladies name unfortunately), John basically guided us through the meal and his choices were amazing. The restaurant ambience was superb with pictures of the owner with local celebrities - I recognised some of the football ones (all FC Porto related of course!!)

We take the memories of this place back to England, if you get the chance, please go you will be made to...

I know they are super popular so my husband and I showed up 10 minutes before they opened without a reservation. I loved that a smiling host waved us in even though they were not open quite yet. The cheery service continued. They seem to serve a lot of traditional dishes but all exceptionally prepared. My first bacalhau à brás was here. And I have a feeling it’ll be one of the best ones I’ll ever eat. It was so aromatic and it really is just perfect execution with good ingredients. I could taste the eggs through the salted cod. And the potato texture was lovely as well. I dream about it all the time now. Everything else was lovely too. I also had the veal, blood sausage and of course the yummy fritters. The mixed meat platter that everyone else was getting looked amazing but it was far too much food for us. I can’t wait to come back.

We walked a long way to get to it because we found an extensive menu and good reviews on the Internet. The menu was quite limited. We took a soup, green peppers, octopus and the veal with pasta. The soup was just ok, potato and cabbage. The pimentons were tasty, but 2 times at leas fewer than in a place we had eaten 2 night before and at almost the same price. The octopus was dry, fried and had a very dry rice that seemed microwaved as there was no juice at all. The pasta with veal and red beans were great! Expensive also for drinks, even house wine comes at around 15 euros the equivalent of a bottle. Bread was put on our table and bill for 3 euros, too much. The service was kind otherwise, we did wait a bit too much for the food.

Really great Portuguese food! I took my mom for dinner here because we wanted to try some traditional Portuguese cuisine and it did not disappoint. We had the cod fish dumplings and grilled green peppers as starters, and the octopus rice with fish as a main. All three tasted very nice. Would definitely recommend the cod fish dumpling! Beware: options for vegetarians are a bit limited, as there is only vegetable soup as a main dish. Staff was very friendly and accommodating!! Would definitely recommend coming here. Make a reservation in advance or come right when they open as it's a popular restaurant.
