Great place away yet near from city. Good food. Small portions but good. Tons of choices of wine. Lots of tables to choose Inside and out. Excelent environment in xisto rock. Main room very noisy. Construction missed the proper materials to absorbe sound. This means table conversations suffer interference from other tables and overall room noise. Point to improve: have opened rooftop areas for sound to escape, and spread more cork materials over the walls. Service was not particularly spectacular for 2 main reasons. Speed on the slow side and waiter wanted to rule over the customer to the point of asking how much we wanted ro spend. That's a no no. Totally off the book. If he really gives a thought, at that moment he lost our respect and confidence. Aprrehension settles in, doubt becomes the main course and criticism starts. Point to improve: Never ever judge the wallet of the customer or try to replace his will to spend. Always suggest or give choices, never impose. We ask for the list and surprise more than one waiter were reluctant to show. Very very strange, shows lack of confidence and engages suspicion. The place and the food win over these not so good points, and is certainly an excelent place and overall was a good...
Read moreAte here for lunch as there seemed to be a lot of people outdoors. We chose a table blocked by some wall so I thought I'd go in and ask for menus as we didn't think we would be seen by staff. I was told to go back out and wait. Quickly noticed the wall had a small ledge at table height covered in ant powder so that wasn't great. Bread and grey olives came that we didn't order and a small starter of samosas and breaded things which we also didn't order but accepted and then were charged 4 euros for. Add one seem to be directed at tourists and we wish we hadn't accepted because they were not good. My Cappuccino was so bitter with a really awful taste almost chemical which I told the waiter about when he asked about the meal but I was still charged for this. Fries had a hair in it and tasted like they'd been fried in the same oil as fish. Prego sandwich was acceptable for the price. Overall food quality and taste was poor, unhygienic and generally didn't...
Read moreWe came here on our second night in town. It's a busy and popular place (among locals and visitors), so we made a reservation a few days before.
We had our Bulldog with us and took a table outside. The menu is pretty big, has lots of typical portuguese food and lots of fish and seafood. Really a lot of tasty items.
We ordered a bottle of white wine, the popular meat sandwich, clams mediterranean style and a crab with shrimps on the side.
The sandwich was excellent. It's a simple, but popular dish. Simple, but great. The clams were nice and fresh. The crab had a nice size, but we've had some better crabs before. Solid, but not great. The White Wine - while pretty moderately priced - was excellent (Planalto - Douro).
Staff/Service was very friendly and helpful. Had some tips on what to see and visit for ur.
All in all a pleasant evening with good food. Not the very best dinner we've had in Portugal,...
