Eusébio dos Frangos — Restaurant in Porto

I really really liked this restaurant conveniently located opposite the Campanhã train station, Metro and Bus terminal in Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto.

We dined here on consecutive evenings after returning from day-trips to Braga and Aveiro respectively, the food was really good value for money and the service ( Senhor Manuel ) was top quality.

These folk serve a nice variety of traditional Portuguese dishes and there is also a take-away service. We had grilled Dourada and Robalo ( line fish ) the one night and a house-steak the other night - both were winners.

Be aware that in most sit down restaurants in Portugal everything that your waiter places on your table ( bread, butter, olives, cheese, bottle of water, etc ) is chargeable, if you open it and consume it then you pay for it. Take-away containers & plastic carrier bags are...

This is somewhere you need to check out if you are in this area. It is not the prettiest looking cafe, but the steaks are fantastic, service very good and house wine wonderful. We had two fully plated meals, plus bread, a pint of beer and a carafe of wine, the total was 16 euro. Given the quality of the steak, we expected a far higher bill. We went here on a recommendation from the person at our hotel. We were looking for authentic Portuguese food. Eusebio dos Frangos did not disappoint.

We had bacalao, grilled sardines, grilled sirloin cap and a salad. We highly recommend this quaint restaurant.

4 stars on atmosphere because outside tables were so close together that the cigarette smokers at the next table made it hard to enjoy...
