Snack-Bar Os Catitas — Restaurant in Porto

A small hidden local snack bar across the road from the Porto's train station and bus stops.

There are only a couple of tables, but because it's not a major tourist destination (thank god), it's usually not a problem to get a space.

And where else to try a Porto's infamous francesinha than in an authentic spot like this? A very helpful lady behind the counter helped me choose the original one and suggested a draft beer to go with it (don't worry, it wasn't a Heineken).

And of course, it was a bomb! You get a really good food in a home-made quality, decent beer, relaxed and friendly atmosphere and all that for fair non-tourist prices. Just be prepared to pay in cash.

It's not a 5* restaurant, but it also doesn't try to be - you come here to experience the real everyday Porto. And it's exactly what you would...

Os Catitas was our choice for lunch in a rainy day. It is just across the street from Campanhã which makes it very practical if you are traveling and if you want a quick meal.The interior is very simple and traditional, nothing fancy. The staff was very friendly and nice and the service was fast enough. We ordered the francesinha with pork and we were not disappointed. The sauce was very tasty and the size of the dish was enough to satisfy the hunger but not huge to make you feel stuffed, which might be sometimes the problem with francesinhas.
