We walked the Mercado for some time, and then discovered 3rd floor had restaurants. We walked past several other places and Herdade 1980 was only place that looked full but managed to have a table for 6 pax.

We found several great wines and ordered both the LV red and white wines which were great and great value. We ordered Shrimp balls, Eggs/potatotes/sausage (broken eggs), 2 herdade steaks, and soup/salad. We LOVED Broken eggs dish and several of regular customers seemed to order it. You could smell it across the room as it had truffle oil and was scrumptious. The steaks with mushroom cream sauce was great though they did cook our medium rare steak, medium but it was still quite good.

The manager/owner was very kindly and welcoming and his staff very professional and efficient. They accommodated us last minute to get a dessert with candle for my niece which I was thought was very kind. Just really great hospitality.

Having come across Herdade 1980 on a tour of the wonderful Mercado do Bolhão, we returned a couple of days later for what was one of the standout memories of our short break.

Within the warm and welcoming setting of the restaurant, we tucked into some lovely steak mains, plus some of the nicest starters and desserts we have ever had (the stuffed Portobello Mushroom and Banoffee Pie were both outstanding!).

The staff were amazing, and a big thank you should go to Miguel, who not only showed the same level of attentiveness and enthusiasm as his colleagues, but also took the time to write down a list of late-night bars we might enjoy to go onto.

At the end of the meal, everyone commented that we would expect to book weeks in advance for a similar experience in the UK, and indeed, our only regret was that Herdade 1980 wasn’t...

Food was really nice. We had mostly small plates to share. I am a carnivore but I was hungry for some veggies so I ordered the vegan cauliflower “steak” with curry sauce and sautéed mushrooms - DELICIOUS! I was not missing the meat at all, it had wonderful flavor and the mushrooms were cooked in wine and shallots, absolutely gorgeous.

Staff were attentive and friendly and spoke extremely good English for which we were grateful. We sat inside for lunch right under the big windows like in the photos, beautiful atmosphere. When the sun became too much, the waitress offered for us to move to another spot but we were enjoying the sunshine so she recommended opening the windows for the breeze and then we felt totally relaxed and able to enjoy our lunch to the maximum. Um restaurante 3.5 ou 4.0 a depender de muito. É um pouco complicado avaliar, porque os preços não combinam com o que é de fato servido, então temos que destrinchar algumas coisas para avaliar de verdade: A começar pelas entradas: Eu pedi o Couvert com manteigas. Ha 3 pães diferentes, 2 deles e 1 broa, servidos com 2 tipos de manteiga e 1 azeite com vinagre balsâmico. O pão que seria uma torrada (tosta) que parecia já estar velha, mas como eh torrado, engana ainda mais levando manteiga. A broa estava boa e o outro pão, mais fofinho, parecia também já ter passado o tempo, não me pareceu ser feito na hora. As manteigas, uma (amarelada) estava sem gosto, além da gordura da manteiga, e a outra (esbranquiçada) já me pareceu melhor, mas nada sensacional. O azeite não pareceu um azeite de qualidade, pois não tinha lá sabor muito menos perfume, e o vinagre balsâmico a isso adicionou nada além. A seguir, eu acho que posso falar do prato: Eu pedi o bife que vem com chalotas e molho de mostarda Um bife de vazia que não é uma carne de extrema qualidade que justifique o preço: afinal, é só um bife normal de vazia que dá pra encontrar nos Supermercados locais. Ha um outro problema, o bife eh mal executado, pois haviam partes bem passadas, partes ao ponto e partes mal passadas - e o bife, o meu exclusivamente, foi mal cortado, pois haviam cortes contra a fibra, o que traz rigidez ao bife. E essa inconsistência também traz sabores diferentes à boca e a paladares mais exigentes. O molho de mostarda era gostoso, sim, eu gostei. Ee as chalotas não estavam necessariamente caramelizadas, como tentaram fazer. Uma pena A batata Chips (ou crispy) é uma coisa muito simples e sem muito mistério de se fazer, estava boa, mas nada espetacular Eu pedi um Arroz de Costela (acompanhamento) que estava bom, sim, mas era um arroz de costela que vinha com muito pimentão (pimentos verdes e vermelhos) e como deveriam saber, isso rouba muito o sabor. Então eu jamais chamaria de "arroz de costela" No geral, pelo atendimento, o restaurante acaba sendo um excelente lugar para comer carne com amigos, tomar um vinho, depois de um bom passeio pelo Porto e no Mercado de Bolhão Entretanto, para escolher como um Restaurante para ir sempre que possível é mais complicado. Eu voltaria lá? Sim, uma segunda vez

Very good. My octopus was very good! It was very tender and the sauce tasted good. It was a little salty at the end. Me and my cousin both enjoyed it throughly. The appetizers were very good. the steak tartare was extremely delicous and was a nice balance of acidity. The oxtail croquette was good, but not my taste. My cousins *really* liked it though. "Tasted like it took time and care to cook" "Looks tiny* but packs a punch" *wasnt tiny. I had a fourth of one and it was like 2 inches in diameter Desert had a brownie, bubble ice cream is very strange. Very colorful but a little odd.

Very good. My octopus was very good! It was very tender and the sauce tasted good. It was a little salty at the end. Me and my cousin both enjoyed it throughly.
